Found a guy who has a 36B he'll sell me. The pump is complete, but the front and back doors are off the pump. One of the doors is bent a little at the bottom. No rust-through or anything like that. No faces. One of the bezels around the faces is cracked. No ad glass, but top and base are in good shape.

Has anyone bought the replacement side and front panels from Gas Pump Heaven, for example, and do they look just like the originals? How is the fit? I might be able to straighten the panels that are on there, but might have to buy replacements. Don't want to buy the pump and find out that I can't repair the panels and can't buy replacements.

Anyone bought replacement panels and did they look and fit correctly?

Thanks
Mac

Larry,

Do the back and front panels have the "stepped" shape just like the originals? I think I can buy the pump as I described it for $600 and haven't bought Jack's book yet. I assume that this is still a good deal? Looks like a fun pump to restore.

They are terric. You can bolt on the sides, fit the doors and THEN locate the latch fasteners for a perfect fit back after paint. I sometimes grind a little off the bottom of the doors right at the steps to keep from gouging the base after paint. The flat panels are not easy to repair if they have large dents or are bowed. The doors tend to beer can as you try to straighten the stretched metal. You can either use the heat and quench method or cut a slit in the center of the dent, or buy new pristine skins.

Yes they do. Don't want to get into a typing match with others here. But the 36B is a very sought after pump. Art Deco and all. The prices will continue to rise. The tops, in nice shape start at about 350. And unless you find one of those from someone that does not know you will likely pay that or MORE. The repro face bezels I believe are 125 each. Lots to add up to see where you might be. Get on line and go to gaspumpheaven and get a catalog. Larry

Larry,

I've got their catalog and Vic's. From the photos it was hard to tell if the panels were identical to the originals. It is a pretty cool pump and will probably buy it. Just wanted to make sure I could get quality panels like the originals in case I couldn't straighten the original panels. Thanks a bunch!

Hi Mac. The 36b also came with one side as a can display. I believe Andy can fix you up with the parts to change one side of the pump and then you can display about 24 cans and you can get some great reproduction cans from Dick Bennett

Well I got the pump......

Whoever said, "Hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn", said it right!

I bought the pump today (I'm on vacation until next week). Girlfriend calls to check in and I say, "Hey I bought a really cool pump today!" She asks what I paid...... I'm not smart enough to lie, so I tell her. She goes on a rant about how she can't believe I spent money on a pump when I should be spending money to renovate our other bathroom........

Anyway, you get the picture. Made a call to a friend of mine who's been looking for one and it's down the road. Some day I will own one of these pumps. They are cool. Perhaps it was too much to buy a Wayne 60 and a globe inside of a week and try to buy another pump?

As a wise man once said, "Women control 50% of the wealth in this country, and 100% of the P***Y." I was almost willing to hold onto the pump and endure the pain, but I don't go back to work until next Tuesday and that's a long time.........

Man I wish I was single again! I'd finally have a 36B.

Mac

Don't worry Mac.... as long as you go step by step, making sure she heal from your last purchase, you'll be fine.

Nice pump... you are a lucky man!

Mike
