Is there any special treatment you need to do to porcelain before doing touch up work on it, say like painting the sign?? Wouldn't the paint flake off? Could any good body man just fill in any chips and then do a base coat-clear coat or is there more to it than that??

Thanks to anyone who could answer this.....

I USUALLY JUST BUILD UP THE AREAS WHERE THE PORC HAS CHIPPED BACK TO THE METAL WITH LAYERS OF SPOT PUTTY. THEN WITH A TERRYCLOTH TOWEL (RAG) I USE LACQUER THINNER TO REDUCE THE AREA AROUND THE CHIP BACK TO IT'S OWN PERIMETER, THEN WET SAND W/600 SAND PAPER. THEN PAINT WITH YOUR BASIC OIL BASED ENAMEL BY COLOR MATCHING. REMEMBER PAINT USUALLY ALWAYS DRIES DARKER THAN THE COLOR YOU BRUSH ON (OR HOWEVER YOU APPLY IT). I USUALLY MIX A SHADE SLIGHTLY LIGHTER THEN WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE AND FILL IN THE SPOT PUTTY AREA AND FEATHERING IT ONTO THE SURROUNDING AREA. MOST OF THE TIME I AM LUCKY WITH A COLOR MATCH. IF NOT - GENTLY WIPE IT OFF WITH LACQUER THINNER AGAIN AND DO IT OVER. HOPE THIS HELPS...GOOD LUCK AND POST BEFORE AND AFTER PICS WHEN YOU ARE DONE!
