We all hang out here because we love gas and oil, but what specifically turns your crank. I have collected a lot of things in this category, tins, globes, signs etc, and eventually sold them as my interest wained. Then I got my first clockface pump and that was it, the race was on, mind you its a turtle race when you have champagne taste on a beer budget. I'm crazy for clockface pumps, my objective is ten of the rarest, and I'm half way there. Hopefully I'll have them all by the time I retire so I can spend my golden years tinkering and restoring, what about you? ------------------ Good Luck on the Hunt IP: Logged |

I am with you on the pumps. I don't have any clock face pumps yet, One visible and a bunch of 1940 to 1950,s Waynes, Bennetts, Gilbarcos etc but its the hunt of finding that next pump to restore that I enjoy IP: Logged |

Nice Lance, I'm still waiting to find/afford my first clockface. Kind of want a Tokeim 850. I hear ya on that beer budget thing. My crank gets turned by Frontier items. It's getting harder for me to find items I don't already have that I can afford. But when I find something oh boy...crank turnin'. IP: Logged |

Hey Lance..what if you me in your Will become "caretaker" of your pumps and I put you in mine becoming "caretaker" of mine...then it will be a race to see who lives longest....LOL. I too am hoping to trip over an Erie 50 or 53 some day, but not injure myself too badly to bring it home. I guess I'm the most obsessed with the older pumps, really. I started with previsibles and I'm still on that kick, but I'd love to own clockfaces too. I also wouldnt mind having that Bowser Siamese Rol-Way that sold on ebay today... Visibles are actually the only type that haven't excited me so much. With the exception of the Groetken, I'd rather own one of each other category (even 50s elec) first. Wes IP: Logged |

I hope I never stop looking for pumps or parts. I don't have any extremely rare pumps YET, but am real happy with what I've got or created [BOWSER 300 TWIN & TOK. 36B TWIN W/ SHOWCASE IN MIDDLE]. Plus my collection of 36B tops ! DB IP: Logged |

Definatly a pump catagory, I to like clockfaces and is what I am now concentrating on. 1-850, 1-ream 34, 1,851 wayne, 1,96c gilbarco clock. my 2 dream pumps are a wayne 800 and an erie 50,53. and any double clocks of course. Mine are not the rarest but what I have put togather in a year and a half. Oh almost forgot about the tokheim 871 havent seen ir yet but I own it, its about 900 miles away. Brandon IP: Logged |

How rare is that Bowser Siamese pump? I have one, but it's missing the sheet metal. I have several Bowser 585's for the doors. Would it be a worth while search to find the side skins? Or is anyone interested in what I have? tks Tony IP: Logged |

I LIKE IT ALL!!!!!! For me it started with wanting A pump. Just ONE.... A Tokheim 39 would have been fine. But just like potato chips, one led to another... I now own seven pumps. So then I sought direction by going with Chevron (my first job) I like seeing collections of a particular company, or particular items such as globes or oil cans... I also like the "Service Station" approach, where an entire station is built or restored. Early Iron is good too. An old car or truck really gets my motor runnin'. Nice globe holders (pumps) Lance.  Globes do it for me. They don't have to be rare or graphic, just original. I don't even like new paint on my metal globe bodies. I like all types of globes but I found myself buying alot of metal bodied globes the past few years. I also have a passion for collecting Sinclair stuff. As most of you know my son was a Sinclair collector before he passed away. Whenever I add a Sinclair item to his collection I can hear him say "that can is way cool pops". I'm in the process of obtaining porcelain panels so I can build a replica Sinclair station. Thanks to Jim, Brad and Keith I'm well on my way to having the panels I need. I collected Standard (Ind) items but I've been neglecting that part of my collection for awhile now. If I had the budget and space I'd collect porcelain signs. Something I'm interested in thats pretty odd (if collecting globes and cans isn't odd enough} is old gas station blueprints. I have several sets but not alot. I used to have a nice collection of anti-freeze cans. I sold those off so I could buy more globes. My other hobby "obcession" is racing. Not the NASCAR stuff you see on TV, but dirt stock car racing. I used to race, and I've crewed quite a bit. Now I'm just a fan. I started posting on a racing web site in July and I have 1100 posts already. That should give you an idea of how much racing turns my crank. Give me 18 late models on a multi groove 1/5 mile high banked bullring and I'll be the happiest guy you ever saw. IP: Logged |

Wow, pump guys rule! The rest of you guys are OK too, so you can stay LOL! I guess I should correct my first statement, thats 9 rare pumps, and a Tokheim 850,its a love'em or leave'em pump, but I like'em! I also like cast iron stuff, hence the Eagle, I'd like to find a San Francisco style freestanding traffic signal, and a street clock! IP: Logged |
