A half block from my house, there's an old 1920s Chevrolet dealership. It's on a corner, and the whole corner of the building is "open." That is, there is a drive-thru "porch" with one column at the actual corner of the building. Anyway, looking at the concrete in there, I see that there was a gas island.

I know that at a Ford dealer, you could find Hi-Speed gas, or Ford Benzol.

What kind of gas would have been sold at a Chevrolet dealer?

Wes

Now DB the only reason Fords don't need as much gas is because they are only running half the time...lol.

The Chevrolet dealership near me sold Shell for lots of years. I have some old pics (somewhere) and actually own the old visable pump and shell motor oil sign from the early days of the dealership along with some of the other newer items into the 50's.

In the 1980s we supplied Chevron Unbranded to the biggest Chevy dealer in South Florida. After the first Fuel shortage most car dealers bought gas from a major based on price only.
With MOBIL-1 OIL being the "factory fill" on vets it helped get Mobil products in the door.

Hey thanks Terry! I'll try that out tomorrow on my buddy's truck

So Shell seems to be the running consensus... I was just curious, being that the place is next door to me. I might see if I can find any old photos.

Thanks guys,
Wes

Too funny. That's why I have one of each.
My mom worked for a chevy dealer in the late 50s and early 60s. They drove a two-door, 57 Chevy and had a 60 Impala. She said they had gas pumps, but couldn't remember any particular brand. Probably whatever was cheapest.
