Hey Guys; This is the first post that I am personally making to this site. I have been collecting gas and advertising items for 25 years and I have met many, many wonderful people along the way. My very best friends today are people I have met through the gas hobby. Hubba shut the Missouri Show post down before I could respond (Thanks Hubba!) I had a great time at the Missouri Show, John and Mike have worked hard to make the show a sucess and this year was a good one. I have great time at all the Shows and Auctions! Guys, that is what it is all about - having fun, making new friends, and adding that special piece here and there to our collections. It seems that sometimes we forget that. I have had many ups and downs in my life as most everyone of you have. Through it all I have been blessed immensely, in life, with my family, and a great hobby to be part of. I want to say a special word of thanks to my friends Jim Potts, Bob Drake, Hubba, and all the moderators for all you do for this site. Quite honestly I don't know why you do it, it seems lately to be a thankless job. But again thank-you for all you do! Guys this hobby is a lot of fun, 2006 is a year chock full of shows and auctions, get out there and enjoy them! I am looking forward (big time looking forward!)to Rex's Auction next week. I hope to add a few things to my collection, perhaps pick up some things to sell at the summer shows, visit with old friends and make some new ones. That is what it is all about. Guys, this is my post, I started it, I would welcome you thoughts, but I will respectfully ask you to post only positive comments. There has been more than enough negative comments of late and it is time for us to loosen up and have fun with this great hobby! Lonnie Hop Lon like to have fun in the gas hobby IP: Logged |

I look forward to all the shows and swap meets my wife and I go to. We have met many great people that we consider friends and collectors. We have had some spend the night a our place and have had many day trips to visit other collections. This site has made it possible to meet people from all over our great nation. We have had people from as far away as New York to Michigan to Washinton and from Arizona not to mention California, visit us. Have not met anyone that I really did not like. If I have I have forgoton about it. Ted Pam and Ethyl like shows, collecting and people. We must keep the Lodi corner a tradition at the Santa Rosa show. Ted ![]() ------------------ IP: Logged |

First off Lonnie, I want to say WELCOME to Shop Talk! Thanks for the kind words and friendship. As for why we are moderators, well its because we enjoy the hobby so much. Jim Potts had a vision of what he wanted this site to be. Sometimes we get a little off track, but if you look past the ocassional dispute a great deal of very good information can be found on this site. Everything from helping a fellow hobbiest with paint codes for a pump restoration to the chance to brag about our latest scores in Buys Of The Week, to the comradery found in the "good morning" topic in Non-Petro discussion. Those are the things that make our moderator jobs worthwhile. The longer I'm in the hobby the less its about the "stuff" and the more its about friendships and having fun for me. Having said that, I can't wait to go to the shows and auctions! See Ya at Rex's auction!!!! Bob IP: Logged |

Lonnie said a mouthful and it was all candy. I look forward to going to shows to see my friends, not just to buy and sell. Personalities sometimes differ, but like the cheeseman said in another post, we are not on this earth long enough to keep making enemies but should strive to leave with as many friends as possible. The first gas & oil show I ever attended was years ago..Tom Allens show in Lawrence, Kansas. I went to Des Moines for several years, and Scott Wrights show in Colorado.and the best part of everyone was seeing & chatting with friends in the hobby.Of course, finding a Speedway quart was nice too.. Thanks, Lonnie for pointing us back in the right direction. Many of us get enough nit picking and problems at work. I hope this hobby and this Web site can be more about sharing info and pictures, having fun and making friends. Lonnie and Aaron are good examples of people who do those things on a regular basis. I learn something any time I stand close to those guys and listen. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Lonnie, although we have never met face to face, I feel like you are an old friend. I've read your articles, looked at globes in your collection that you've posted in the magazines, viewed them on this site, when you share your knowledge. Thanks for all you do to keep this hobby going. Thanks for posting. Don ------------------ IP: Logged |

Thanks for the great post Lonnie. I hope we see more from you. First let me ditto what you said about Jim, Bob and Hubba. They do a great job and I am especially grateful to Jim for providing us this forum to discuss the hobby. Yea some of us get a little...I'll call it passionate...about some of the topics but we really do feel its for the good of the hobby. I hope it is. And I want to say that you and Aaron truely are "assets" to the hobby. I always flip right to your articles in CTO to read it first. Always informative and with lots of good pictures. And Aarons work recently on the COTM on Old Dutch was great and I can't wait for his hosting of the Dixie one that I heard is coming soon. You guys are great! And yea...Aaron is one tall dude! chris IP: Logged |
