I have a Tokheim 87 Clock face pump from Gulf Oil. Can anyone tell me the approximate year this is and what type of globe from Gulf Oil it would have on it? Thanks.

Welcome 64GTO to real good site. I am thinking you have one more number on the model. Look again and send me an e-mail. If you have a picture I can post it if you want. Again Welcome Larry

64...you've most likely got a Tokheim 876 clockface. Is the top kind of stair-stepped? I don't have Jack Sim's book in front of me (if you don't have it, you need it if you plan on being a pump enthusiast) but I would guess the pump to be a mid to late 1930's model. The pump would have probably been either a plain Gulf or Good Gulf. That's the only two versions of the 876 that I've ever come in contact with. Check here:

if you need a repro globe for this pump.

Most likely a Tok. 871.
NEVER seen or heard of an 876.
Post a picture of one Seth.

Here is Bill's Pump! Very Nice. He is looking for the 'correct globe for it. Page 284 of the Gas Pump Id Book shows a 1 piece glass Gulf No-Nox Motor Fuel. Any help for Bill would be great.

Thanks Larry

Hello, this era of Good Gulf (1936-52) used a 12.5 inch glass GULF globe. The globe that looks similar to the decal/sign was used until 1930.
regards,

Claes

I sold one at Pleasanton in August that is identical to the one photographed that was clearly marked model #876, but it had a square Good Gulf decal on it....I will check with the buyer and see if he will post a picture or e-mail me one. I also had a double version of the same pump that was marked 876-Twin. They both came from the same batch of pumps that I bought in Thousand Oaks 3 summers ago. I do have a picture of it, but I doubt I have a close-up of the id tag. I doubt there is any difference aesthetically in the pumps, probably an internal option that made the difference. Sort of like the Bennett 541, which I have seen marked as almost every # between 541 and 546. But what do I know, right Dick?

As to the globe, 64GTO....I've got this one available for $275 + freight if this is indeed the one you want. 405.282.5586 It is a 1-piece milk glass with fired on transfer.

I like that pump! Very nicely done.

Seth:

That's a kewl globe - and for only $275! That's a steal in my books.

Thanks for the kind words Jim. The one-piece globes are pretty popular at the $275 price, so I've been trying to keep it there even though the natural gas used to make them keeps going UP UP UP!!

...64GTO: what you want is indeed a 13.5" or 12.5" Gulf logo globe...both have been available as repops for some time...

...I definitely would NOT put a No-Nox globe on a Good Gulf pump - that's a Premium-grade gasoline globe on a Regular-grade pump...wouldn't have happened at the station...

...you should be able to get a repro 13.5" Gulf globe on a plastic body for around $90, or the same repro lenses on a repro glass body for around $200...either way, your pump would look very close to its original specs...good luck!
