Thanks Dave! I've wondered about this myself but too chicken to try it. LOL I have had a glass shop cut a cylinder a couple of times. I think they charged me 20.00. Great thread here. Sharing tips and tricks is what this forum should be. Thanks again Dave. IP: Logged |

My local glass shop used to do that for me but he lost his nerve after one exploded on the belt sander....I did get a fancy new Dremel for Christmas, so maybe I'll try myself. You're the man, DAVE!!!!!! IP: Logged |

Thanks all for the kind words. I had tried glass shops, rock shops, granite shops to see if anyone would do ths to no avail. I'm glad there are some folks out there that will do it for you, but sometimes it feels good figuring out a plan yourself too! That blue cylinder is going to look nice in Wifeys' Butler!! After talking with Ron Scobie today, I think I could just have gotten lucky with this project. Ron says that the grinding effect leaves micro-fractures in the end of the cylinder that could develop into cracks. He has a guy that does a heat method to fuse the ends so that's not a possibility. So if you decide to try this, proceed with great trepidation! IP: Logged |
