They were beautiful, but they brought like 1400 each. I was perplexed, still am.

The first one that sold brought $1400. The second sold for $1200. That was without the globes. They where in super shape & where great to see in person.

There were a couple of reasons why the two 546 Bennetts at Rex`s auction brought 1400& 1200 respectively. The first thing was condition. The sheet metal was in excellent shape, even the glass was in all 4 doors. The numbers rolled back with the crank smoothly. Neither of the pumps had ever sat outside. The second (and most important)thing was the fact that they were done in Aetna. The people that saw the pumps up close were looking at 50 to 60 year old paint and decals that was in remarkably great shape. The only difference in the 2 pumps was 1 had Aetna ad glass and the other did not have any ad glass. The only part of the pumps that had been replaced was the tops because someone had taken them sometime down through the years (Door locks also).
For those of us that collect Aetna these are the ultimate find!!
Aetna was bought out by Ashland in 1950 and finally closed down in 1960. Just my 2 cents.-------Greg

I was actually surprised that they didn't go for more. I thought that they went too cheap.
