Ive been looking thru the old topics and have not seen much about Pure oil products. Does anyone know who created the Pure Firebird and when? Possibly the early 60s? I always thought it was a cool image!

Pure introduced Firebird Regular and Firebird Super in 1961 replacing the Pure Pep and Pure Premium brand names. Firebird branding lasted until 1970. My theory on this name rebranding is the heating up of the "horsepower wars". Notice how the timeline coincides with the Muscle Car era. I think Pure's AD guys were looking for a more potent name for fueling up the SS Impalas, 409s, and Max Wedge engines. The plastic pump plates were used until 1965 and when needing replaced, a decal was used.

Hoodchicken:

You gotta a Pontiac Firebird? 'Cuz a nice 300 with the Firebird plaques on it would look killer next to one.

Oh - and if you need any T/A or Formula parts, give me a shout. I got tons.

Later . . .

Jim

The hoodchicken on our T/A is pulling 24 hr. gaurd duty over our pumps, one of which includes a wayne 505 that in time will be wearing the red&white Pure firebird paint scheme. Scott:

It might be Chris' pump. I'm not sure which post you mean. He has a short Bennet done up in Mohawk sitting in his 'Man Cave'.

I am going to be picking up (another) Tokheim 300 in a week or so. I may be looking to move it without going to the trouble of re-doing it (if you're interested).

And I have to stop at an old farm that has a matching pair of 39's or 300's sitting in the yard. I haven't taken the time to stop yet since I'm not gonna pull them in the mud.

BTW - I got lots of parts for Second Generation Firebirds, and a bit of First and Third Gen stuff if you need anything. I'm looking at getting rid of ALL of it shortly - so if you need anything, let me know and I'll look.

Later . . .

Jim

Hoodchicken I do have a Bennett 966 and it is a Pure Firebird done in Red and White, theres a Mohawk Globe next to it though I think thats what Jim is thinking of. The Bennetts are nice pumps to restore, and the Pure paint job looks great In my opinion. someday I will do another 966 in Pure I'll just do it in blue and white It'll look great next to the red and white one .

The mid-south Jobbers Association bought the rights to use the Pure logo from Union 76 when they sold all their eastern interest.

John F:

Those glass panels almost look like they'd fit my 505. Never seen any around here like that. Rex mentioned the market in the So.East I wonder if those are for a much newer pump? Thanx for posting, interesting!
