We are exploring hosting a petroliana event in Beaumont, TX. Beaumont is the home of the 1902 Lucas Gusher, and is considered to be the birthplace of the modern petroleum industry. Many of the best known name in the oil business were founded in Beaumont or the immediate surrounding area including Gulf, Mobil, Sun and Texaco (Sour Lake, TX). Beaumont has many museums and venues of interest to petroliana collectors including The Texas Energy Musuem, Glady City Boomtown Museum, Fire Museum of Texas, and historic Crockett Street Entertainment District. Your questions, comments, and potential criticism's would be appreciated. Greg (Co-Author Black Gold to Bluegrass history of the Yount-Lee Oil Co.) IP: Logged |

Greg, I'd like to see an event in Beaumont. As the center of the oil industry, Texas is sure lacking in petroliana shows. I live in Sugar Land and certainly would attend. Hope you get more positive response. Paul IP: Logged |

We have definitely decided on a date of August 11-13th. This will be held in conjunction with the Hot Summer Nites car show. A Houston collector has agreed to loan us his large display of Texaco memorbilia. I would like to sponsor some sort of sale or auction as well. Does anyone have suggestions for a company that could organize such a sale if I provide the venue? Greg IP: Logged |

You should seek out Bill Wilson...he is in the Houston area and has been having some sales & swaps for years in the Houston area. Some you South Texas boys got his info? IP: Logged |

Greg, Sounds like you're the organizer of this event. Why don't you just plan to have a regular swap meet? Your first time show will probably be too small to hire an outsider. For help, you may want to contact some of the organizers of other shows in the hobby. Paul IP: Logged |

I am in fact the organizer, and things are progressing nicely. I'm glad for all of your suggestions. A swap meet area would be a great idea. Anyone interested in space should contact me at gsriley1@sbcglobal.net You will be able to see firsthand what several million in oil dollars would buy in 1929! I promise this event and venue will be totally unique in the hobby. If anyone can put me in touch with Bill Wilson I would appreciate it. Greg IP: Logged |

Greg, I'll be there, already got it marked on my calendar. Maybe we can get one organized in my backyard in Kilgore, the real home of the Texas oil boom! IP: Logged |
