Does anyone remember what this outstanding sign sold for? I'd never seen another one like it. Any history on it? Thanks.

Are you talking about the one in the red ring behind glass? If so that was not orrignally a crown sign. They said what it orrignally was but cant rember, but who ever had it put the crown sign in it.

So it was made up? The only thing I had to go by was the small flyer Vic's sent out. No decription and it wasn't even listed (that I could find) in the flyer's list of items. I don't even have the flyer now. The sign, or whatever it was, had a very fancy border. I got the word "marquee" from what someone called it in an earlier post before the auction. If this was made up, no wonder I've never seen one! LOL

It was a gas sign orrignally just not crown. I bet seth could tell us again who it was orrignaly. was built out of wood. The glass got broke in shipping unfortunaly, was really neet though.

Thanks Brandon, I feel much better now knowing it was "made up" and even made from wood. I have been kicking myself for not even attempting to buy it when I thought it was a rare special Red Crown. Thanks again.

Guys...it was originally a Marathon piece, and it was cast iron & not wood. It had the same shape as a globe body without the base flange. It even incorporated snap rings. It had a tag on it from Cincinnati Advertising Products (just like globes & double bubble clocks). The outer glass piece was convex like a lens. It went for $1850. It wasn't really a made up piece at all, it just wasn't all there. I still have it in my possession, and it is definitely not wooden. I think Brandon may have had ice in his eyes that morning
