HI - SPEED GAS & GAS STATIONS , HI SPEED GAS STATIONS WERE OWEND BY THE HICKOCK OIL CO. OF TOLEDO OHIO.WHICH BEGAGAN SEPRATING IN 1917.
THEY OPENED A LARGE # OF STATIONS THROUGHOUT MICHIGAN AND OHIO, FOR SOME ODD REASON THERE WERE MANY MORE STATIONS IN MICHIGAN THAN OHIO,EVEN THOUGH TOLEDO WAS PRACTICALLY ON THE MICHIGAN BORDER, I BELIEVE THAT THE REAL REASON WAS BECAUSE THERE WERE MORE OIL CO. TO COMPETE WITH IN OHIO.
IN THE LATE 1920S THE PURE OIL CO.MADE SOME SORT OF AGREEMENT WITH THE HICKOCK. OIL CO."WHERE PURE OIL CO. PURCHASED A SLIGHT MAJORITY OF HICKOCK STOCK'HOWEVER THE HICKOCK OIL CO WOULD CONTINUE TO MANAGE ALL HI - SPEED STATIONS.
HI SPEED STATIONS WERE FAMOUS FOR GIVE AWAYS. SOMETHING LIKE CHEESE . HAHA DURING THE DEPRESSESSION OF THE 1930S THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE PROMOTION OF HI-SPEED PRODUCTS ON THE HIGH WATTAGE RADIO STATIONS IN DET. MICHIGAN, THEY SPONSERED THE SIX O CLOCK NEWS, FEATURING DICK OSGOOD. AND THE RADIO SCHOOL HOUSE WHICH WAS BROACAST FROM THE STAGE OF THE BROADWAY CAPITAL THEATRE IN DOWNTOWN DET. AS WELL AS SEVERAL NETWORK SHOWS.
ONE OF THE NETWORK SHOWS THEY SPONSERED WAS THE 'JIMMY ALLEN' SHOW HE WAS A SUPERIOR TEEN AGE TYPE SIMILAR TO JACK ARMSTRONG,WHO WAS QUITE POPULAR WITH KIDDS AND THERE WERE EVEN A COUPLE OF BAD MOVIES HE STARRED IN.. OF COURSE YOU HAD TO GET YOUR MEMBERSHIP CARD AT YOUR LOCAL HI-SPEED STATION
HI-SPEED STATIONS GAVE AWAY GREEN DEPRESSION GLASS DURING THE 30S AND WHEN WORLD WAR 2 BEGAN THEY STARTED A VICTORY CLUB". KIDS WERE GIVEN A VICTORY CLUB BADGE AND AN ALBUM. AND EVERY WEEK A NEW WAR PHOTO CAME OUT TO BE PASTED INTO THE ALBUM. THE PICTURES WERE OR P39s P38'S P40S P51S SHERMANTANKS BATTLESHIPS AND EVEN AIR CRAFT CARRIERS, ETC.
DURING THE LATE 40S, HI-SPEED STATIONS GAVE AWAY LIBBY GLASS WARE FOR SALE PROMOTION.
THEIR EXTENSIVE ADVERTISING PAID OFF AND ALWAYS KEPT SALE NEAR THE TOP OF THE LADDER
WHEN THE PURE OIL CO. PURCHASED THE REMAINING HICKOCK OIL STOCK IN THE EARLY 1950S, MOST OF THE PRIVATELY OWEND STATIONS OWNERS OBJECTED TO THE CHANGE AND IN KEEPING WITH THE OLD ADAGE"IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON"T FIX IT"
NOW THERE ARE NO LONGER ANY PURE OIL STATION IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN. AND I SAY MAYBE THOSE HI- SPEED STATION OWNERS WERE WISER AFTER ALL.
HI-SPEED WAS ALWAYS ADVERTISING A NEW VARIETY OF GASOLINE. SOME OF THE DIFFERENT NAMES WERE EX-CARBON" GYROL" GYRO HI COMPRESSION. BLUE FLASH,BLUE FLASH GYROL" AVIATION GASOLINE, PREMIUM, ETHYL, GASOLINE, DIESEL.AND JUST PLAIN HI-SPEED,THERE WERE GLOBES AND OTHER ADVERTISING FOR ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT TYPES OF GASOLINES, HI- SPEED STATIONS ALSO HAD ITS SHARE OF CAR PRODUCTS FROM WAX TO BUG REMOVER. GLASS CLEANER TO CHROME POLISH. AND ALSO TO KEEP THAT CARS MOTOR RUNNING SMOOTH THEY HAD MANY TYPES OF MOTOR OIL, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THIS TOPIC TO SEE SOME OF THE TOUGHEST CANS AND GLOBE TO BE FOUND FROM THIS CO. HI-SPEED GAS STATIONS WERE TRULY AMERICAN, I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS MONTHES CO. AS IT IS VERY HARD TO FINE THERE PRODUCTS, WILL WRITE MORE LATER, GOD BLESS ALL. CHEESE

ARTHUR HICKOCK" WAS A PIONEER IN THE OIL INDUSTRY AT THE TIME OF THE AUTO BOOM. HE EVENTUALLY BECAME ONE OF TOLEDO'S WEALTHIEST CITIZENS. HIS BUSNESS BEGAN TO EXPAND DRAMATICALLY. BETWEEN 1928- 1935 , HE GAINED CONTROL OF THE MARKETING ORGANIZATIONS OF SUCH CO. AS THE WILSON&HIGHLAND CO.OF DETROIT MICHIGAN AND THE POCAHONTAS OIL CO. OF CLEVELAND. AND I THINK THAT IAM THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS A GLOBE FORM THIS CO. [MAYBE NOT]HAHA THE #OF HIS FILLING STATIONS REACHED 1800, CAN YOU GUESS WHAT HICKOCK'S BRAND OF GAS WAS CALLED.[ NO NOT GAS AND GO] BUTIT WAS CALLED HI- SPEED
IN THE DEPRESSION HICOCK WORKED HARD TO HOLD ON TO HIS BIZZ. MR HICKOCK OFFICE HELP WORKRD 2 SHIFTS & HICKOCK WORKED BOTH. HE PASSED IN 1945. HIS CO. WAS WORTH 15 MILLION, AND HE LEFT A PERSONAL ESTATE OF 5 MILL.
UPON HIS DEATH, HIS WILL STATED THAT A LARGE AMOUNT OF HIS ESTATE WERE TO GO TO HIS EMPLOYEES,& TO VARIOUS CHARITABLE. THIS GENEROUS PROVISION WAS IMMEDIATELY CHALLENGED BY THE EXECUTORS.
IN 1945 HIS EMPLOYEES RECEIVED 40,000. THE CHARITIES AND THE ESTATE REMAINED EMBROILED IN A LONG LEGAL BATTLE UNTIL 1961. WOW WAS THIS MR. HICKOCK RIGHTOUS OR WHAT. . WELL THATS IT FOR TONIGHT . CHEESE
