Wow - that sucks Mick... The worst part is it's one less piece of history left in the world...

Is that how it was packed? If so, it's possibly the most substandard backing job ever. The box is WAY too small, and there should be two boxes. There's hardly any packing material. That's how I'd pack one if I intentionally wanted it destroyed.

If the post office has to inspect it, they're probably going to say it's not their fault due to poor packing. Good luck with this one

I hope it all works out,
Wes

Just what you didn't want Mick, a globe in kit form. That sucks, I don't envy you dealing w/the insurance part. Did you buy it from Jarvis? (Just trying to make you smile Mick!!)

Mick I would get in touch with the seller for sure. I guess the JJ curse still lives. This would be the worst pack job on a globe I have ever seen in my life. Good luck on the insurance Mick.

I think you're going to find that no shipper's insurance will pay for that broken globe. Generally, for fragile items you will have to prove that the breakage was the shipper's fault...that means visible DAMAGE to the box for evidence. Without that, you are SOL.

I hope the seller refunds your money. Good luck!

Paul

I knew it... i was just waiting for someone to bring up my name. LOL Tom and Brad... santas NOT coming to visit you this year! LOL

I had one packaged just like that... i even told him how to package it and he just took it to Atlas Van Lines and let them do it.
Good luck with the insurance... i can say when UPS saw how it was packaged they denied it right there on the spot. Lucky for me he gave me my money back.

You guys kill me... Mick... i have felt your pain!

yikes a red crown puzzle....that sucks!!!!
thats why i wont buy globes on ebay because people dont know how to pack stuff.........they just throw it on a box and let it go. i bought a 3 piece glass globe off ebay a few yrs ago and the seller took it to a "professional packer". i got the thing and it sounded like a rattle when i picked the box up. here the idiot put it face down in a small box, then put that box inside of a little bigger box with a few peanuts and sent it out...and get this.... i called and talked to the guy who packed it and he said that he packed it very good!
it took me forever to get my money back.
my 2 cents worth....still the best way to buy is at a show or from a person directly. good luck mick!

Grab the metal base out of there before UPS or who ever comes and gets it. At least you won't out everything!

You didn't buy that out of Utah did you. I bought a globe out of Utah about three years ago, it was a 3-piece shell on glass. Got a great deal on it, because the lenses were caulked to the body. The packing job looks like the one in the picture and so did the globe. As bad as the packing job was, UPS paid up in just a few weeks and gave the seller a warning on the packing job. I hope it works as easy for you as it did me. Not saying anything bad about the collectors in Utah, just the one person who can't pack a globe.
