Here's a few pics of a Mobil distributor in Jacksonville, Tx. I took these awhile back and just by chance ran into the owner today. He said the big neon Pegasus is really not for sale, but I gathered he would sell it at the right price. The buyer better have VERY DEEP pockets though. He said it was one of only 4 made, I have no idea if that's correct or not. Maybe you Mobil guys will know more about that. I believe the other smaller Pegasus on the pole is neon as well, sorry that the pics are not that good. I was in a hurry when I took these.

He is an older gentleman, and he said when he went to work for Mobil in the mid 50's, his job was to take down old signs and "deface" them, that is to whack them with a sledgehammer! He said he still remembers that porcelain cracking! The signs were then sold as scrap. Thought I would just pass this along, kind of interesting.

Maybe there were only 4 in his area. It would be VERY EXPENSIVE process to only make 4.

The top pictured sign is featured in braglines in the May 2005 issue of PCM. It is a beautiful piece for sure. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
