I hadn't seen that style of mechanism in a Dayton before DB, do you think it's original?

No, but just like nozzles & valves, items were replaced w/ what was handy. Just like most farmers won't make a special trip into town to fix a broken part on an old tractor, they will replace w/ what ever gets the tractor working again.
