I just got done restoring my two gargoyle oil cabinets. Tom (nochevys) said he would post the pictures for me because I think it was easer to rebuild my 454 big block then post a pic here. LOL I would like to share with all of you the story of my cabinets. A couple of months ago I was on line looking up mobil signs & stuff when I came across a lady talking about a cabinet she had found in a dumpster on this web site. After reading the comments and seeing the pics I raelized it looked a lot like the 2 cabinets in my grandfathers celler. So I ran nextstore and shure enough they said property of vacuum oil company NY NY. My grandfather died in 84, he worked for mobil from 29 to 66, my mom now owns the house. Anyhow after finding the cabinets I saw that the two tops were missing and could not find them anywhere. I called my mom who also has a house in Tenn.and she said the floor under the cabinets started to crack and leak water, so she had someone poor a slab there & when she went to put them back the tops hit the rafters, so she took them off, this is where it gets weird. My mom said she scrapped the two tops about 2 years ago. She kwew the guy who came and took the tops and gave me his phone #. I called the guy thinking there was noway he would still have the tops after 2 years.

Ran out of room.. The guy knew what I was talking about right away and said he thought he still had them because he thought they were some kind of farming equipment that you hatched chickens under because of the light socket in the top. Well I got a call back from him a few days later and he said he found them in his barn and would bring tmem right over. What are the ods on that? I think the cabinets were just ment for me to have.

Forgot to tell you about the signs. When I took all the stuff out of the cabinets that my mom , dad , and grandfather had been stuffing in there for many years I saw that there was cardboard on all of the shelves. After lifting up the cardboard I saw that my grandfather had laided the Ask For porcelan signs under the cardboard. Still looking for the globes.

Wow! Those cabinets are beautifull, and have been right there all these years, hey, I like the car around the corner too. Is it a '54 Chevy? The pic is kinda dark and can't tell for sure. Have ya got some pumps to go with everything else?? Thanks for sharing.

That is a great story and outcome, congrats and nice job! You had me at the tops, what a bonus the signs are, and the "stop here for" you don't see as often, cool that they were not the same.

Hi Ken,
Yes, the car is a 54 chevy total custom. 3" chop, full air ride system, I can slam the car to the ground and bring back up 5".Big block 454, turbo 400 trans, 70 nova rearend posi with 3-55's, power windows & seat, power disk brekes, power steering, shaved door handles. Took me 4 years to finish. I can ask Tom to post some pics if anyone wants to see more. Jim

Hey Jim. Very cool, I brought the post of "our cars past and present" in "non petro" section back up for ya. I for one would love to see more pics, and I'm bettin' that there are a few others would too. Man, cars and gas collectables, goes together like love and marriage, there's a song in there somewhere, ha. Thanks Jim.
Ken.
