Is there somebody here that can make cans from flat ones? I just got a Dixie can on ebay that is flat but would like it to be made into a can. Is this easy to do and about how much?

Fred Stokes is the only one I know that will re-roll your can. I'm NOT good at it YET.
Thought I was ready to do 5qts. but failed on the last one that was sent to me.

Ted, I think what ihavegas is referring to is cans that have never been rolled. I Dick can do these I have a couple for him. Correct me if I am wrong ihavegas.

I can make you copies to sit on a shelf that are hard to tell from the originals EASIER than re/rolling an NEW/OLD can.
As with the 2 cans Scott posted, I don't have the flanging or seaming equipment. What I have is the LIDDER's [top/bottoms], & A FULL TIME JOB.

You bring up a good question...allot of flats out there need inflating! You are getting the same answers that I got when looking into this a two years ago (not on Oldgas).
I got-r-done by reverse "engineering". First I found someone who does the re-lidding, and bought both end lids. I needed the ends to measure the true inside diameter to calculate the flat length needed. Since mine was a crimped seam joint, I simply measured the joint lengths from another similar can that was missing a top. Scribed all the reference lines for bending on the backside of the flat. A friend of mine is a toymaker and had a small roller and brake for light sheet metal. We rolled the flat to the diameter needed and bent the opposing legs of the locking joint using the brake.Protect the finished side of the flat with masking tape prior to rolling. Hammered the joint tight with a hammer on a flat bar from inside the tube.
Mailed the can tube and ends to my guy who does the lid process.
Turned out good, but would never do it again. For the time I had into it I would have been better off spending 150.00 bucks for a 75.00 can. LOL

I've also seen Dick Bennetts work on his "Look alike" cans.... Maybe we can talk him into opening up a store someday...
BTW, why not just display the flats, that should make for an interesting conversation piece.

I have taken many flats and rolled them into cans and put tops and bottoms on them with quite a bit of success. I am talking here about the flats that have never been rolled into a can...like the ones pictured above by quartcans. The ones that were made into cans and then split open and flattened present more of a challange. Usually what I see is that the the top and bottom rims have also been cut off. These could still be rolled into a can and relidded, but they will be close to a half inch shorter than what they should be...they just don't look right then.
I will post a few pics of cans that I have rolled tonight.

The pics quartcans showed are exactly it. This has never been rolled just old flat stock I guess. Thanks for the help guys...are we sure Fred won't do it any more...maybe I should just keep it flat

Here are a couple of pics of some cans that I have rolled from flats. The discoloration by the seems was already in the flat when I got it and not as a result of the rolling process. I have also done many of the exact same ones as pictured above. ihavegas if it just the one can that you want done, send it to me and I will make a can out of it for you...you just have to pay the shipping.
