I've been told that only cans from the mid 60's and up have zip codes on them. True? I've seen a few cans that people claim to be from the "'40's" with zip codes

smile The US Postal Service created the Zip Code System in 1963. Nothing before that year could have had a zip code in the address. The System was promoted by a caricature of a thin Mailman named " Mr. Zip." info available on Wicapedia, Tom Buckles, or a 20 year retired Mail Carrier, me. Ed.

Bar codes started about 10 years later.

many addresses during the period between 1943 and 1963 had a one or two digit number following the city name. These numbers were postal zones .. ... cool
