Dad is starting to take apart and clean up a M S 80. We are thinking ahead of what brand to make it. It has an ad glass top. The question is , Is there any ad glass for a M S or Wayne 80 other than the 6 that are in Vic's and GPH? Or has anybody restored one as ant other brand ? Or made-up brand ? Thanks .

I think the ones you find at Vic's and GPH are all that's available for reproductions. Conoco used the M S/Wayne 80 with the ad glass in at least three versions showing the words "Conoco," "Premium," and "Royal." I have also seen one "Co-op" glass. Other members here would know a lot more about this than I do.

Conoco switched to ad glass in the M&S 80 around 1953 when they introduced "Super" as their premium grade of gasoline. While I have not tried to restore an M&S80, I have looked for ad glass for an earlier pump (Tokheim 36B) and I found that very very little was available in the reproduction ad glass for Conoco gas pumps. Here are two photos that show the ad glass in "Super". I believe the first one is the regular top for the M&S 80 and I believe the second one is a fiberglass insert in the ad glass section......but I am not the expert on the two varieties of M&S 80 tops.

Ok , thanks . We'll do some thinking and see what do. Already have a few pumps done as Texaco, Conoco. And a Mobil and Sunoco. Was trying to make this a different brand , for some different color in the pump room.

As you probably already know....Conoco, Mobil, Sunoco and Amoco were the owners of Martin & Schwartz in the mid-1940's when the M&S 80 came out. I suspect close to (if not) 100% of the production of the M&S 80 went to those firms. If you find a photo of another oil company using the M&S 80 in the late 1940's or early 1950's it would likely be because the station owner switched brands after the pumps were delivered. The attached 1951 article mentions that sales of the gas pumps from M&S were still primarily to those four oil companies, even though they no longer owned an interest in M&S. They each signed a 5-year contract to buy gas pumps from M&S as part of the agreement to sell the company in 1949, which ended up being purchased by Wayne pumps in 1951.
