I am wrapping up my M&S 80 and after putting on the top with add glass , I realized the too wide replacement seal overlaps on my add glass seal. The original seal was probably half the width and double the thickness of the replacement. Is the accepted practice to cut the seal down to proper size? The only thing I notice is that even now the seal doesn't fit tight to the body and cutting it will most likely not improve that if not worsen it. Thoughts ??

I have restored at least 100.... MS 80'S and have never used the door rubber. In my opinion, it takes away from the sleek looks of these pumps. I use felt bumpers on the back of the door to protect the paint. Can be found in Lowes/Home Depot. Nothing more. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Warren, Look on my site under For Sale....click pumps....scroll down thru the sold units. Every MS80 shown is without the door rubber. Regards, Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Thanks for the input. I did cut the seal back since it was installed already with not much to loose to see how that would look. Better but not best. I’ll look at it for a while but I like your suggestion. I’m headed tot he Street Rod Nationals this year and I’m going to scout around at the seal vendors and see whats available there too. These seal provided as replacements just don’t make it . Thanks again !! Tim

I'm finishing up a MS 80 right now.
This is what I used along with automotive weatherstrip adhesive to secure it. The adhesive on the window weather stripping doesnt hold well.
Worked great, just had to trim a little along the top edge.

Good Luck

Chuck

Thanks , That is a very nice pump and the seal really looks clean on it. I attached a picture of my pump I just finished (sort of) and the original seal that I’m sure you’ve seen. Thanks again for the input. Thanks Tim
