My question is was this for a store? Seems to me a gallon of gun oil is a lot for the average person. Or was there a different use for gun oil? I’ve seen the pints & qts but never a gallon
Interesting can. One that I have never seen. Is it possible that it was a bulk buy and dispersed in country stores, where it could be placed into small bottles? Just a guess. Paul

Thank you Paul, that’s the lines I was thinking as well. It’s a beast for a gun oil can
I've heard the larger cans were used by the military. That's of course a very early Texaco graphic and WWi era? Great find nonetheless!!
That makes sense for the size of it and where I bought it from. Wish it was better condition but it’s a survivor
It's really hard to say. I have personally seen a 1 gallon version like that before. Texaco made so many different cans and of all sizes back then, there's really no telling how they were all distributed or used. For example, the common pint size Spica cans, also came in a 5 gallon version. Are you interested in selling it or trading on a different early Texaco can?
Sorry I’m getting a few gallons together now, it’s a keeper
Thank you, and nice collection you have going there! If you ever change your mind, please keep me in mind as I collect early Texaco cans. This is about 1/2 of the collection. All 112 cans I have are completely different. Thank you!
Wow!!! That’s amazing!!! I usually collect graphic qts but in the last week or a few I’ve bought a few gallon cans
