Hello all,

I'm hoping someone can help me on a value for the old Mobiloil Gargoyle display cabinet seen here. I came across this cabinet and was curious about its value, age, etc. Thank you all for your help.

Looks like an island product rack where the different oils in their different containers would be displayed out on the island by the gas pumps. I have never seen this particular unit before. Very interesting and desirable piece! Nice find.

When I first saw this posting I thought, I believe i have a picture of one of those. Looks like it here. There is bunch of bottles on a shelf in front of the angled upper side panels. So it's tough to see, but it looks to have the same tapered top.
Shelf looks to be mounted to the column.

Very cool rack!! Going to be fun (read "very hard"!!) to fill that sucker!

Between the signs, globes, lubester paddels, cans in the windows .... This old place had quite a collection going!!!

Anyone know what kind of globe that is?

Wow that does look like the same rack. Very cool nostalgic photo also, what is the time frame from that photo, late 30s, early 40s? Thanks for posting it and for the info, much appreciated.

I would think that with all the Gargoyle items in that photo it would be early 30's at the latest, probably earlier. Before the Socony Vacuum merger, Vacuum's Gargoyle Mobiloil was sold everywhere, at almost any brand gasoline service station that wanted to sell it, including many small independents that were in the gas business, not motor oil. Gargoyle as the major trademark was pretty much phased out by S-V by the late 1930's, with Pegasus' introduction in the early 30's.

After the merger, Mobiloil became more of a sole property brand and was sold through Mobilgas retailers or S-V jobbers. Also by that time all the other companies were trying to build brand loyalty by selling their own motor oils, say Gulf or Texaco, in branded cans.
