It is metal over cardboard. I have heard others call metal over cardboard "celluloid" signs, but I don't know if that's technically correct.

No metal associated with the material celluloid itself, Kirby. I believe celluloid is the first synthetic "plastic" that was developed some time in the second half of the 1800's. I think a clear coating of celluloid was sometimes put on the face of small formed cardboard or metal signs for protection. Hope things are going well over by you. John
