Looking forward to seeing this project progress.
Good luck and can't wait to see the progress!
Congratulations, can't wait to see the progress.
Hope it's everything you want it to be. Sounds like you've had plenty of time to plan it. Think the electrical out carefully.
Always cool to watch peoples projects come together.
Good luck, Congrats, and can't wait to see the progress!
Ditto Dougs comment on the electrical.
retaining wall and compacted gravel on the floor and drive way
going in next
Don't know if you ever go there..but Garagejournal.com is a great resource for garage building tips.
will be watching you progress!!! I`m jealous of your build.....
alan
Keep posting pix, fun to watch the progress.
I second the vote for garage journal. You can spend days reading and gaining ideas/input there (as we do here-lol). It is all divided into categories - flooring, electrical, etc.. Good luck on your project!
will do more work going on this week, I had a budget of $25k just to build the building, with the dirt work and retaining wall i'm at 30k now, still need a floor, insulation, electric, heat and walls.
Stuff really has went up for sure . I could have taken out a giant loan on mine , handed overs the plans and let someone else do it , It took me longer but I I saved about 17k I figured from the bids I got from others just doing it myself . Excited to see the progress on yours as you build. Keep us posted .
well since my last post the town made me dig out even more, and have a bigger wall going in tomm, also building is being dropped off tomm, soo things are really gonna start happening. will post more pics tomm

keep us updated with pictures as construction progresses into another phase ...
snapped a few pics today while I was home on my break of the wall being started and the garage being unloaded.
marky
Sweet..you must be excited. Cant wait to see it all done!
a little more gravel and some end cuts on the wall and the dirt work is done for now
Wow, exciting stuff!!! You must be nuts to start the decorating!!
its exciting to see progress
it'll be done before you know it ...
I take it that that wall is just a landscape retaining wall?
kevin i was told by morton buildings it was the best thing to do for proper water drainage and to prevent frost heaves
yard all cleaned up building going up next week
Mark, you don't need a poured foundation in your town?
its a morton building can be built either way looked at a few that were built local to me similar and double the size of mine without a foundation
all holes back filled and re graded
was away all week for dixie gas came home today to see this all wood frame is up
what is the sq. footage of the building?
you can't make it big enough, you might
think so now but it will fill up quick ...
its a 30x30 with 14 ft ceilings its the biggest my town will let me build i wanted it bigger
Looks great and I see you have lots of room to expand....
some of the siding up
Man that is one clean looking outside. I could live in there.
man ive been doing all the grading I think it looks like a mess lol
What size is the door? Taller the better
garage door is a 10x10 door
roof just about done and coupla going up
Going to be a very nice garage when done.
need a time lapse photo story
nice
looks good, I bet your neighbors don't appreciate the look
well i had the colors match my house and put the coupla and weathervane on it neighbors seem ok with it
Wow that looks very cool!!!
Can't wait for the interior decorating to start!!!
That's way to nice, you need to put a truck on blocks out there for your neighbors to appreciate that also. Look'in good!
to be honest it looks small in the pics the building is over 20ft tall I'm used to it now, trying to figure out landscaping
before the floor and garage door is done
floor graded and wire mesh put down for cement floor , floor being poured wed
more pics to come
marky
come'n right along, keep us updated.. ...
floor poured this moring still wet.
Are you going to hard trowel it and or color ?
Lookin' good. Finishing the inside is just around the corner.
Dude...get a few signs up...lets go lets go!@
No - put up some nice interior walls first, and paint them. You will be much happier if you do it now instead of removing everything off the walls in a year or so to do it then.
It will make EVERYTHING look better.
Later . . .
Jim
I agree with Jim. Finish the interior before you put anything in the building.
2nd floor balcony and frame work is next
I wish I had spray insulated mine, sure gets hot in there during the summer.
I like the height h of the building, good planning.. ...
they told me not to use spray insulation on my building for 2 reasons, one if you need to do a repair, and two the water or condensation has no where to go they said the building would rust or rott
the height was a change I made due to the fact the town made me scale the building down soo i made the ceiling height to 14ft with a 21 ft peak will be putting a l shape 2nd floor balcony in very soon.
garage door installed today, supplies being dropped off and framing of walls and 2nd floor balcony being started soon
everything is coming along. I would think you will be very happy with this garage when you finish up. It looks great now.
Tom
Looks nice Mark. I would agree to not use the blown or blow-on type insulation. I had that stuff in a building one time and unless you cover every inch it constantly falls off or gets knocked loose. Not only that but the mice love to go condo in that stuff and it really stinks (literally) when they do that in the ceiling or wall adjacent to an area you use a lot. My new shop has one inch hard foam sheeting between the stringers and the metal with r-30 batt insulation in the walls and ceiling before being sheeted with either metal or osb. It's like a cooler, super easy to keep warm or cool and you have finished walls for anything you want to do. You're going to love your new home when it's all done. My wife calls my shop my house as I live out there more than in the house.....GB

...have you had any issues with condensation?
I've had none yet, its very dry inside now that the garage door is on, can smell the fresh kilm dry wood when you walk in, just got conformation today that inside framing and 2nd floor balcony will be started in the middle or end of next week
very excited a few more steps closer.
Mark, if you were asking me about condensation, no, I have never had that problem but I keep it heated and cooled pretty much year round...... GB
1st load of lumber here today for framing of walls will post progess later today or this week
Glad you have not had water issues Mark. For almost 1 year after my concrete floor was poured, the inside of my building condensed from the water evaporating from the drying floor.
walls for insulation and electrical almost done, have to frame ceiling next
Wow, going to be an awesome space!!
more framing of the walls on the high ends
2nd floor balcony is next.
marky
Marky,
I like the carriage door look of your garage door. On my doors, I put a pin stripe vertically in the center of the door using 1/4" black 3M automotive pin stripe tape. Cut and press down at each section edge. When you stand back, the door will look even more like swing-out carriage doors.
Love how things are shaping up.
I might paint the squares on the garage door red to match the garage
ceilings framed, lumber for the 2nd floor balcony, and one side of balcony started,
balcony, stairs and railings will be finished this week.
marky
Wow! This keeps shaping up to be an awful nice place! Way to go Marky!

been awhile since my last post got approved for national grid with a 200amp circuit with a separate meter electrical starting in the next few weeks, meanwhile had crushed stone, grass seed
and solar lights put in.
Looks great in the state of TN. Two meters on one address will result in one being on commercial rate. I wish I would have installed a 400 amp meter base and buried the feed line. Just make sure everyone is on the same page.
Wow, looks awesome!!
One question though, at what point does a garage become a barn?

Loyd, Same here in Mississippi! Was going to build a "out building" here on some adjacent property, Entergy was going to charge commercial rates! So between them and the county not wanting to issue me a permit, I said the heck with them!!!!!
You should be extremely satisfied with what you set out to do. It is awesome!

That'll look real nice all stained and sealed.
I personally like the natural unstained, unsealed look. I would leave it just as it is. Looks natural and not "Wax Museum" like. Looks good Mark. I was in Billerica area yesterday picking up some stuff, was I close to you?
I looked back at the original post, you've come a long way and have been patient about it Mark. Regardless of what finish you chose, it will be a job well done. I am sure you'll be glad when its all done and ready for use.
Awesome!!! Love the knotty pine!!!!! Just awesome!!
It has come a long ways, it looks awesome!
kz1000 you were close to me, gonna have to stop by when its all done
