Today was like any other day on the road looking at gas & oil artifacts that are for sale, and I had been disappointed already at my first stop of the day, with high priced, low condition signs.
I was in somewhat of a hurry ton get back home and finish up with some last minute packing for Iowa Gas, when I remembered a scrap iron guy in the area that I was at! I had bought things from him in the past and the stop was worth the time to see what he might have.
He remembered me and was glad I had stopped back by, because he had been saving a few things for me in anticipation that I would be around again. He said he had a few oil cans saved up and wanted to see if I was interested. We went to a back room where he had the cans, but it was too dark to see what he was picking up in there, so I led the way back into the open, with him following.
As we got into the open and I turned around, I almost tripped over my bottom jaw, because it hit the ground! He was holding what appeared to be 5 blue colored Husky quarts--JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!
And then I suddenly realized what I was looking at! They were blue colored Husky quarts alright, but had been trimmed by someone to hold bolts and allow you to see what was in the can. My jaw quickly came up from the ground and formed an awful frown of disappointment.
As we looked the cans over, he explained they were in an old building that he had cleaned out and he couldn't bear to leave such pretty cans behind and hoped that I could use them. I didn't like the fact that they had been trimmed, but at least one of them was still complete, and the story that would go with the cans, was worth the purchase!
We looked thru some other buildings and came up with a few newer Texaco and Mobil cans that he threw into the box. I paid him and was about to drive away, when he hollered and stopped me. He said he had forgotten about the light pole and I should look at it before I left. I hopped out of the truck and walked over to an iron pile that I had walked past earlier and there it was! Leaning up against the rest of the iron and kind of camouflaged by its patina, was a very nice Revere light pole with the air and water fittings. We made a quick deal and loaded it into the back of the truck and I was down the road and finally in possession of a Blue Husky Quart! Not as nice of condition that I was hoping for, but it will do until the really good one comes along!
I couldn't wait for sunday and BOTW to tell this story, because I will be on my way to Iowa Gas. Its just too good a story to leave hanging! I hope you enjoyed it!! LOL
