Since the "Countdown to Christmas has started" (9 days and counting) I thought I would revive this thread I posted in 2012. Not all the images are still avail. after 4 years. But, I'm hoping that the Membership will dig out their Petro related Christmas items and share....

Since I posted; I have added a few Christmas items:

Osceola Refining display ad & match cover from a Phillips 66 distributor. The tanker pictures aren't following the thread but are just too nice not to include.

I just found this going through my Christmas records, didn't know I had it, from mid 60s.

I will start out with a few non-Mobil items from my collection that are Christmas related.
Here we have a Hi-Speed calendar from the late 30's, a Shell handy oiler gift box, and a Raybestos blotter with Santa.

OK, now on to my Socony-Vacuum and Mobil Christmas items. I collected vintage Christmas long before I collected Mobil, so whenever I see a older Mobil Christmas item I have to have it!
We'll start out with a modern ornament given out by Mobil in 1992. The box of ornaments are from the 1950's.

The issue of Socony-Vacuum News is from December of 1936. The poster is from the early 1960's and is large, at 34 by 47 inches. I have a copy of a period photo of one of these posters in a station's window. The Tavern brand candles are a popular collectible with Christmas collectors. I only have a couple examples, mostly to display the boxes.

OK...now on to some calendars. General Petroleum released some neat ones back in the mid to late 30's. Great artwork in my opinion.
First up is a 1936, followed by a 1937, both given out in the General territory. The third calendar is a Mobilheat from 1958.

This was a cool Ebay find this summer....the December of 1945 Socony-Vacuum sales bulletin that came with the window display for Christmas. It's special to me to think it is from the first Christmas America celebrated after the end of WW2. I'm sure it was a very special Christmas to a lot of Americans that year. To give an idea of size, the strips are 10" by 32" wide.

Now on to postcards.....in the first photo the top 2 are from the General Petroleum territory, and as usual have neat artwork. From top to bottom they are dated 1935, 1936, and 1937. The bottom 2 postcards are bit larger in size. The top one is my favorite Mobil Christmas item in my collection. Cool artwork with the Pegasus reindeer!!

Have a good Christmas everyone,

I figured I would bring this timely thread up again and add the few new Christmas items I added to my collection over the last year and see if anyone else dug up any items they might want to add.
The card is from 1940. I researched the gentleman's names at the top of the card and learned they opened the Socony-Vacuum office in Des Moines, IA in June of 1937.
The 2 Mobil ornaments come from the Beaumont Refinery in Texas and are dated 1998 and 1999. It's neat to see the use of the magnolia flowers on the '99 in homage to the Magnolia Petroleum Co.
That's all I added this year...anyone else?

I thought I would bring this thread back and update my oil company holiday additions from the last year. Not too many, but I think they're fun additions to a collection.
First is a Marathon card that doesn't get any more retro than this...the car, the font, etc.
The other is a Hi-Speed card from 1941. I googled the intersection of Outer Drive and Burt in Detroit and the station is still there surprisingly, living on as a repair shop. This card was a surprise in a lot of old Christmas cards I bought at a local antique shop. I didn't know it was in there until I was sorting them.

Last are the additions I made to my Mobil Xmas collection.....
This first is a photo card of Dahlstrom's Mobil Service at 1618 St. John's Ave. in Vancouver, WA. I googled the area and it appears this station is long gone. It's a neat old General station though with the large wood Pegasus in the clouds sign on the canopy.
Next item is what I would assume is a popcorn or smalls bag with Santa and the Mobil flat shield logo at the bottom, probably late 50's.
Last for this year is the 1936 Magnolia calendar, front and back shown. I really like the earlier calendars, the lithography is always so well done.
Have a Merry Christmas everyone, and please add any holiday finds you have made to the thread if you would like!

As usual, I was looking around tonight and discovered one I forgot. I bought this monster ball ornament early this year. I put it next to a quart can for size comparison. From the same era as the smaller ones I posted earlier in this thread, 1950's. I would guess they made these large ones to hang in station window displays, as they are big. I've only seen a couple of these over the years, so I was glad to acquire one.

Well Darin, being from southeast Michigan the curiosity got the best of me so I had to check out the Hi Speed station on Google Maps.

According to the street, it looks like they still like their cars! LOL.

Very cool station. There are a lot of them left in Detroit.

Well, as far as I can tell I only added one Christmas related item to my collection this year. It's a nice addition though as it is from my region, a 1937 White Star Mobilgas calendar. As I said before, the artwork on these old calendars sure is nice, they don't do lithography like this much anymore!
