Picked up a cool old Russian tire poster. Over 100 years old. Was told it was by the artist who created Bibendum the Michelin man.

A Pennco, Texaco, Kendall, and 4 Chief patches. As I look at my picture I had a nice red white and black color scheme going and then threw it off with the Pennco addition!

This is a very nice poster, Trevor. Congratulations!!!

·················································
POSTER DESCRIPTION
Lithographed poster for Russian Prowodnik tires, a brand commercialized in the French market.
Illustrated by Marius Rossillon “O’Galop”.
Printed by Moullot, Marseille-Paris. 90 x 110 cm, c. 1910.
A bear—Russia’s patriotic representation in animal form—slides along the snow, protected from the attack of hungry wolves by the tire that surrounds him.
·················································

Yes, “O’Galop” was the creator of Bibendum, the Michelin tire-man character trademark, born in 1898. O’Galop did not work exclusively for Michelin, he carried out his professional collaborations as an illustrator and poster artist taking on commissions from other companies in the tire industry: Oury-Labrador bicycle tires; Liberty bicycle tire manufactured by Antoine Mathias Wolber; Anti-skid Palladium tire, Pneu Francia; Sans-Peur anti skids; Pneu Cuir Samson; Dunlop, and Pneu Vittu. He also made posters for auto and tire accesories as the compressed air tank Gonflo-Pneus K. B.; Jante Vinet Amovible, and the Vélox Rubber Solution, a cement for repairing bicycle tire covers.

If you want to see the images of all these posters and to know the story behind O’Galop, Michelin and other tire brands, you can download the chapter I wrote devoted to this story at:
