(OKAY...MY TURN AGAIN!)
SAW THESE THE OTHER DAY AT THE COUNTRY FAIR IN RIVERHEAD. BUT DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THAT ONE IS ON THE LEFT...W/O THE MOTOR!
~DOC
Maybe the one on the left is all gears and you would crank the handle like a paper towel dispencer. Sorry Doc.
Mick
some sort of propulsion device ... sorry doc.. got no clue... i'll check through some books when i get a chance..
Here's my only contribution. This is a 1958 Evinrude 3 HP "Lightwin", all original, runs fine. Still has the "Evinrude Golden Jubilee" decal, and the sticker from the marina my grandfather bought it from is still mostly there. I use it as a trolling motor. It's really quiet! And it uses very little gas.
This thread actually convinced me to put in a new water pump impeller. A mechanic had told me that it probably needed replacing, I'd been meaning to get to it, and I bought a new one - 20 years ago - and just today got around to installing it! The old one turned out to be fine.
[This message has been edited by silent chief (edited 10-10-2007).]
take care of them ol' kickers and they will probably run forever... thanks for posting and have fun with it...
question for the mods:is this a new record on posts?cant remember ever seein this many
hey... if you guys want me to keep this goin' i will.... lol... nahhhhhhhh... ending it tonight.
OK Guys Here We Go....time to wrap this up. Good to see so many have enjoyed this thread. I really loved putting this together. But, if it wasn't for participation, it would have gone nowhere. So, a three part dedication is in order - 1) to those who posted - I stand and applaud you. My sincere thank you for taking the time to share, be it one piece or many. For this, I am grateful. 2) For those who have read through this thread....hope you had fun with it. And now.....In my first post I stated that I really did not know why I started collecting outboard "stuff". Well....after some thought, maybe, just maybe, my dad had something to do with it. My dad lived to fish! How well I remember the times in a leaky old rowboat w/that little Evinrude on back. It goes back to the time when you could rent a rowboat and hook up your motor and head out to the bays for a day of fishing. I remember the "ritual" of adding the oil to the gasoline. It had to be just right. The sights and smells are there like it was yesterday. Pop would put a big "washtub" in the middle of the boat and we would fill it up with flounders. Game Hogs? I doubt it! Man, we would feed the neighborhood. After a day on the water, he would dump the catch in the kitchen sink, put up the cutting board and go to work. He'd be cleanin' em, mom would be cookin' em, and I would be eatin' em. Then, mom would make up packages for the neighbors and I would be the delivery boy. The neighbors with the most kids would get the most fish.
Well....Pop is gone a long time now but Pop - this thread is for you too. Thanks for those great times on the water and until we "hook" up again.....keep a tight line and I hope you caught the big one.
THANKS AGAIN ALL... it was an awesome ride..
some of pops old gear..
just one last thing.... take your kid (kids) fishing.... i still do. might just be a memory for them that lasts a lifetime.
Thanks you kmann Outstanding loved it. jack

and these...
Can some one point out what Nirvana is selling? maybe I'm blind but I don't see it , all I see is manuals and ads , as a kid growing up in the Soo , Flyods Phillips 66 sold used outboards along with new ones, he also sold bait, outboard oils , outboard gas tanks with the squeese ball, tackel ,bobbers , line just about everything a fisherman could want, what I don't remember him selling or giving away is bango thermometors , but he did sell the keychain floats for your ignition key with his name on them . I think outboards have as much a space on this thread as anything else gas and oil on this site , after 400+ post I think its obvious that a lot of people are into anything marine just as much as we are oil cans from Motorcycles, cream seperators, or sewing Machines , I guess to me anything that produces oil ,talks about it , or uses oil has a right to be on this site . maybe I'm wrong but its my oppinion
thinking the same thing chris.... "outboard" ain't "petroliana" ??? ... guess again.. never meant for this thread to come to this and moderators, kill it if you want. i can see nowhere where ken (liquid nirvana) did anything wrong. his website was pictures... nothing for sale.. if i missed it please let me know. too much outboard ?????.... let the damn thread speak for itself...
Would Gun oilers be outlawed as well , some of the most graphic oil cans going are gun oilers , Holiday gas stations in the Upper Penninsula sold guns ,ammo, and small handi oilers for guns , Winchester, Browning, Smith&Weston , ect. ect. but I assume guns have nuthing to do with petrolina ether so am I to assume that they too would be excluded from showcase show and tell as well ?
i really think a newbie got a cheap shot.. if i'm wrong.. gentlemen.. state your case. if any of you don't care to read or participate on the "outboard" thread then don't. the topic was OUTBOARD. whats not to understand.
BUT.... BY SAYING THAT... WHERE HAS THE "LAW" BEEN VIOLATED.... maybe i missed something.... in that case ... no smoke and mirrors... just the bottom line... if there is one....
personally... i want to apoligize for this thread coming to this... 400+ posts and now the bull****... too bad... damn shame. seems to be the way it is here lately...
I loved this thread. I only have a few cans and one sign but I haven't been able to post because there at my lake home.I will get photos next time up.I don't understand what the problem is??
Chuck,
It still has been the BEST thread in history. I really enjoyed it.Man, my hat is off to you for your hard work on this thread. YOUR THE MAN !!
thats o.k. my friend... please post pics when you get a chance... just a small communication gap between me and the management..
maurice... you know i love ya man... it will be resolved. thanks for the kind words.
What....not much Texaco? Time to fix that...

I also have an 8' Texaco Marine Sign that is buried and a couple of the old Texaco Marine Cans withthe Seagulls. One Black and one white T The Stan Craft plates are from a boat building company near my old home town and they built nice wooden boats and put this plate on the inside of the boat. I think they still build Stan Craft boats in Idaho near Coeur D' Alene

I read he posted a link. Rules are no links allowed in showcase area. I don't see anything being said about what is being posted.
jarvis... no links if anything is for sale... nothing was for sale. the mans website was only pictures. i could have gone on but outboard wasn't considered petroliana. thats the bottom line. i don't want this thread to go on as a sounding board. my email works and will now prefer to comments going that way.
chuck
alex... gotta love it !!!!... thanks for the post !!
o.k. guys... lets take this to 500... post em' if you got em'...
Here is where the policy on links was explained.
http://www.oldgas.com/shoptalk/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001783.html The policy is no links in Showcase topics. There is no stipulation that there needs to be sales activity there.
I explained by email to Ken and Chuck that the pictures and links could be posted in the Non-Petro forum.

I THINK THE REASON THIS THREAD HAS GOTTEN SO BIG IS BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY IT HAS GONE WAY BEYOND THE OUTBOARD MOTOR OIL REALM. I KNOW THE SUBJECT IS OUTBOARD WHICH LEAVES THE THREAD WIDE OPEN FOR POSTING AND KMANN HAS REALLY DUG DEEP INTO POSTING REALLY COOL IMAGES AND STUFF RELATED TO OUTBOARDS AND GOING QUITE OF OF HIS WAY TO MAKE THIS THE MOST VISUAL THREAD EVER. SO WHAT IF IT'S ON STEROIDS AND HANGS AROUND AT THE TOP? GOT SOMETHING BETTER TO POST...GET ON IT...YOU GOT A LONG WAY TO GO!
I COULD DEF PUSH THIS THREAD TO 500 POSTS IF I ONLY HAD A FEW EXTRA HOURS IN EVERY DAY!
KUDO'S KMANN! KEEP ON TRUCKIN...ER, I MEAN OUTBOARDIN'
~DOC
thanks doc.... a thread on "steroids"... HAAA.. I LIKE THAT....hope you find the time to post at least some of your "stuff".. and.. yes "outboard" is a broad sword. i figured it would be fun to try and cover EVERYTHING.
Just got this Mobiloil Marine oil chart yesterday. It is from 1953. Lots of engines I have never heard about. //Claes
thanks for the post claes.... way back when on page 23 i left something there for you...
a transistor radio.. how cool is that !!..
THE FOLLOWING VINTAGE COVERS ARE FROM LIQUID NIRVANAS EXTENSIVE COLLECTION... i want to thank him for allowing me to post these... thanks for sharing these ken...
This 1966 Fuel Injected EVINRUDE and used standard petrol & standard MOBIL oil from a standard oil drum & did 131mph. The picture below shows a MOBIL oil drum used in a previous attempt in 1960.
YEAH KEN.... DO IT !!!!!!
ebay...
JOHNSON/EVINRUDE Rotary Race Engines from 1973.
Did you know that a JOHNSON/EVINRUDE, 9 cylinder 3 rotor Wankel type motor was about make the transition from drawing board to prototype in 1999. If this had been successful the Outboard Motors today may have been totally different.
------------------
Nice stuff ken , keep it coming
Here is FREDDIE WEBB in his EVINRUDE F1 V8 OZ powered SMITH Hull TAKING OFF. Note that the hull jumps clear of the water on initial acceleration. The best he ran with the combo was with a 20.5" pitch rolla four blade at 9100 rpm with a 19:20 gear ratio. The prop was turning 95% of the motor. It ran 154mph with no nitrous -
So much power that the entire boat is riding on the propeller.
Half Way Point -
Pure Adrenalen powered -
This is probably the most overpowered but controlled boat I have ever seen. AMAZING

Jim
kmann, i had to post the 500th.....wish I had an outboard shirt
Paddy
I was saving this for the 500 post but a pelican from Louisiana beat me...this is a Swedish Outboard Mobiloil from ca 1953 - a little different than the usual design.
//Claes
thanks to T way... claes... and paddy for taking this over 500 posts... EPIC !!!.. the next 500 are going to be harder !... lol.. thanks to all that had contributed and read this lil' labor of love !!
chuck
Claes , that is a Great looking can , do all Outboard brands in sweeden have that style of cans ? or was Mobil the only one?
and.... a few more from ken (liquid nirvana)..
over the top evinrude ranger... mine should only look that good !!...
Chris,
I actually meant the "design" with the brushstroke, where it says Mobiloil.
All Mobiloil cans during the early 50s had this stroke with different wording i.e.
"Mobiloil", "for use with 2-stroke engines" or "triple action".
The type of can with the small screw on cap was used mainly for the different types of oil that would not necessarily be used all at once - for Outboard and other 2 stroke engines (Mobiloil D) and Mobilube.
I may have seen it in other brands as well, but I am not sure.
br
Claes
ps. 500 posts for me too ds.

I have asked kmann to limit future posts in this topic to petroliana items. In this topic we have seen some great outboard oil cans, signs and related items, but in the last dozen pages there have been 117 boat, motor and fishing tackle pictures and 30 petro pictures. In the last 3 pages, 39 boat and motor pictures and 4 petro pictures.
We try to keep a fairly tight focus on gas, oil and auto service memorabilia. Several members have commented that we have strayed away from that focus here. While some members no doubt enjoy vintage boating memorabilia, I ask that this topic not have additional boat, motor or fishing tackle pictures posted. Members wishing to see an outstanding display of that subject can search for "LIQUID NIRVANA" on Google.
Photos of boats and outboard motors are welcome to be posted on the Non-Petro forum.

PROBABLY NOTHING !!

I agree , it's been a great ride so far . I for one do not want to see it end , so I'm going to dig deep for some stuff, I'm sure I can put together some more Pictures of something gas, Oil, and Marine Related
[This message has been edited by +Chris Holt (edited 12-05-2007).]
thank you chris... i'll be digging too. now... heres the gig... we gotta stick to petroleum product containers.. petroleum company marine and outboard signs and advertising. kind of a grey area on advertising but i guess its o.k. if it got some gas company logo on it. lets stick to this so we don't stray and **** off a whole bunch of people.
hard to find..
POSTING THESE FOR MAURICE... thank you my friend..
