Thought I would share these, never seen them before. I have no interest but these are coming up next week in a local auction. Enjoy.
You might want to check the inscription at the bottom of the globe in the colored band. Reproductions are usually dated in that area.
They might both be fake? I just never saw that image and didn't think they looked popular enough to reproduce? Like I said, I just saw these online (not in person) in a local auction listing. I have no interest and do not collect globes anyway. Just sharing.
Mike
You can see reproduction written on them if you zoom in.
Junk, wonder why someone would reproduce such ugly globes anyway?
W/ some Browsers you can Hold Down the Ctrl key & Tap the + key to zoom in [Tap the - key to zoom out].
Mike--Scotts book lists the Mutual being worth between $1000 and $1500, while the Tulsa lists between $500 and $800.
They can't have that little reproduction disclaimer on them though--that make them worth less than $100 each.
Sweet DB, thanks for the mini explorer lesson-it works.
The Tulsa globe reproduction is dated 1983 if I remember right (our's is at our shop right now so I can't doublecheck it) however the one we have is dated in black ink above the bottom gold band. We've got an original too but there isn't any writing at all of any sort on it. The repops of the Tulsa globe are actually pretty tough to find but I think we still only paid 130 or so. It would appear there was more than one reproduction of this globe made - I'd happily pay $100-$150 for it if you're at the auction.
For reference's sake, here's the pic of the date on the repop we have:
