Jim Nabors turned 85 today. The actor played Gomer Pyle on the Andy Griffith Show.
I thought I would share some pictures of Wally's Filling Station.

2014 was the last year Jim Nabor's sang the Indiana song "Back Home Again in Indiana" at the Indy 500. He has been doing that for many years. It had become a Hoosier Tradition here.

Love the episodes on Andy Griffith when he would sing. That switch from a high schrill voice to the Tenor tone was wonderful.

Ever notice the oil cans are always turned backwards. One episode Goober is seen inside the station with cans facing out. When Goober walks out you see the cans facing in.
Brand paid for advertising, in shows was not done, at least on that show. It is big business to do that these days. Like Archie Bunkers can of "Beer".
There was also the Mail Pouch thermometer on the outside wall with black tape over it all the time.

Jim was from Sylacauga, AL. Not Far from here.

Back in the 80's that town was a petro gold mine, and we got as much as we could find!!!!!
The main Hwy through Sylacauga is named after Mr, Nabors.

I think some of the pics are from Mayberry RFD

Cool pics. Love that old show, it is still on here every day at 12:30 so I watch it during lunch. smile I always remembered the ACME MS80's but until just the other day had never noticed a show with the MS 70's but guess I just wasn't paying attention much before I started collecting them. The later shows in color were after Barney left and they just weren't the same anymore. frown.....GB

I love to watch all the reruns as well , what is that in the picture next to Andy's right shoulder ? A stamp machine I don't remember that.

Just saw a color episode of when Goober buys Wally's station. I noticed Citgo oil cans in the window of the filling station.
Another Great show! Nice Red Mustang at Beginning. I am a Mopar Guy, but can't help thinking how "contemporary" that car looks! Just Sayin
