Hi There, I am new to the forum and just wanted to say Hi! While I'm at it, I would like to ask a question. I am restoring a "Wayne" model 70 (1937 vintage) pump to "Texaco Sky Chief". I have the original globe and pump plates and I would like to come close to the correct silver color as possible. I have been told to check old paint stores still in business and they may have some "Texaco" paint chips from the past. I checked to 2 stores and they had nothing. I have asked several "Texaco" collectors and have come up empty. I have looked into some pump books and still zero. I wondered if any of you might be able to help?
Thanks, Freddie

Freddie:
When I did my first pump, a Tokheim 39 short, I did it in Texaco Sky Chief. I called the Tokheim factory and they gave me the original formula for the silver paint. Then I went to a paint shop and had it mixed. If you want, I can send you that formula; I think I still know where it is. Others on this site will tell you to match the paint to your pump plate. Your choice.

Hi Neighbor. I am at work, but the book, The guide to Pump restoration has the codes in the back. Someone may have it who is looking in here. I have a set of Wayne 70s done in Sky Chief and Fire Chief. They look great. I should sell you my set and save you a lot of time.

Welcome aboard Freddie. The Sherwin Williams color code for Texaco Silver is 42159 according to PCM's Guide to Gas Pump Restoration. Let's see it when it's done.

Everybody suggest a different code, (if you find an old paint book you will find that Texaco had about 5 different Reds, Whites and Silver, sometimes it depends on whether they were painting the front or the back of the station) so pick one of them, paint your pump, but if it doesn't match the colors on your decals or signs, you will not be happy. In our effort to be correct, we have pumps with mix-matched colors. Do what you want, being correct, or having a pump where the color match. Jack Sim
