Anyone watch pickers last night and see where Frank picked up the DX globe and said it was a repro because it was in a plastic body and then gave $65 for it.
So now if a globe is in a capco body it must be a repro because Frank from pickers said so...
Got Socony???

I like the show, but watching the negotiating is frustrating (I missed last night). The whole premise that there pickers and everyone must sell to them at half price or less is crazy. I find myself yelling at the TV, "sell it on ebay!". If I told people that, I only buy at half price, when I'm looking for items they'd throw me out.

its all show-biz. pre-arranged by the producers. the location, items, history, price, etc are all pre-selected and determined by the producers of the show before filming. no reason to get frustrated. just watch it and enjoy the scenery... Jack had the best idea, "Watch it on mute"

Yeah, I looked into that a little, if there was any reality to the show at all. I've talked to two different people that were on the show. One guy just a month ago - the guy from Nahma, MI - remember the rat nip episode, that guy.
Location is prearranged, cameras set up of course, caravan of vehicles, film trucks etc. I've been told the negotiating is pretty real, on the fly, on camera at least for pickers. I think it's the only part of the show that is not staged.

I was referred by a friend unknowingly when they first started the show and got a call from their producer in New York and she asked if I was interested. Told her no and thanks for the call. My friend was on their show and he said that in the end of them shooting he had to read off a board the closing scene before you see them drive off. It's just a show and I like some of the old characters they set up a visit with.

They sure have done a good job getting the word out on (rusty gold ) , there aren't many good deals anymore even in rual areas . Everything's priceless.

Yeah I agree with that, although the prices they pay are low in general ironically. I think there highly responsible for the "patina good"-"restore bad" mind set too (not saying that's good or bad!) The irony is even items that should be restored they won't touch on the show. I don't think they've ever had anything painted? Could be wrong not sure.

I enjoy the show. I like seeing the items. Well some of them anyway. Some of them are junk to me. But I enjoy it most of the time. Yah, I know some of it's BS, but it's better then nothing.
And to be honest, if it wasn't for that show, I don't know if I would have discovered the hobby. And I love this hobby!! It gives me another way of showing my love of this nations history.

One of the things that is not prearranged is the History part. They film first then look for something like an ad that they can use to back up the dialog. About a week ago I sent them a picture of an Erie pump, it will be used with a show that was filmed last winter. This is the second time I have contributed to the show.
My name was given to them by Rick of American Restoration. Both the shows are produced by the same company Left Field Productions. Rick an I have known each other for over 20 years, we used to set up together at shows. He purchased the last 75 gas pumps I had.
There is no compensation for my contribution, but my name is posted at the end as a contributor. It goes by so fast you need to record the show then play it back in slow motion to see it. No money, but it gives me something to brag about at the AmVets.

That's pretty neat Jack . I remember reading somewhere before you said you had sold pumps to the ricks restoration guy . When I see episodes of it and it shows all the pumps in his storage yard I often wonder how many of them were yours .

I got it DVR'ed as usual. Yup, good entertainment but some take their word as gospel. Every auction I go to I can hear conversations about values and American Pickers. I will look for your name at the end Jack.
If anyone has a "repop" globe in a Capco they want to sell I will give you $70!! ha ha ha.
Always looking for Ithaca Gun and Lucky Sam soda items!!!
