I used a die grinder with a buffing wheel and some polishing compound. Work perfect, cylinder looks like brand spanking new.

I also appreciate the tip. We have one that needs a good cleaning and have been wondering what worked best.

Sometimes I add laquer thinner in while scrubbing clean, speeds things up. I've never buffed cylinder but I could see how that would really help get some gloss back.

I have always been scared to use steel wool, no matter how fine, I would think it has to scratch some. I use brass wool with Clorox Soft Scrub, works great for me.
You can get brass wool in various grades from McMaster Carr.
I use it on porcelain signs also.
Tom.

Try "AMAZ" Water stain remover. This product works great! I use it on glass & porcelain signs. Our local glass shops carries it and I think Home Depot.
