Being Mike suggested this I thought I'd start it up. Mine isn't the best example as you can clearly tell what it was, but cleaned up nicely.

Others feel free to share your repurposed signs.

This is not my mine (I wish it was), but I saw this re-purposed Vernor's sign at an auction... It was used as a panel and it happens to be on something else we all like. No, sadly I did not win this item frown

I'm in...with a few modifications. Displayed a US flag via the pipe on the side and the hand grips was used to roll it out in front of the Firestone garage and the Western Auto everyday.

I bought this double sided Valvoline sign at a grarage sale for $5, figured it was worth a shot at trying to strip the paint off for that. The guy (laughing) told me if I got the paint off he would give me two more just like it. He came over a week later to see it and was amazed at how nice it came out. He kept his word and gave me two more that I was able to remove the paint on as well. I really liked the repaint that said "open gasoline 28 cents a gal. so I left one side untouched. smile

What did you use to take the paint off?

Here is my Texaco Sign and Banjo Pole. I took it down from its original spot along U.S. 36 in Smith Center, I haven't cleaned it off yet, I will clean it up soon and share with you all.

Thread I posted a while back. A lot of signs were used as building material.

Four of these Good Year signs were found in an old Ford Garage that was built in 1916.
They were wrapped around the outside of drawers in a bench and were cut, creased and had quite a few small nail holes in them, but straightened out pretty nicely.
Had they not been repurposed and used in this way they never would have survived the same as a lot of repurposed signs.

What did you use to take the paint off? [/quote]

I used 1000 grit wet sand paper, Contant stream of water, and lots of patients. I let the paper do the work with very light pressure, and a circular motion. I also worked the paint in layers starting with the last coat first. I sanded the as much of the Red lettering off, then started working the Yellow.
