I have had a pair of ad glasses and their frames for a number of years. I am now getting around to making a display of one of them. The outside dimensions of the frames are 5.25 by 11 and 1/16 inches. The ad glasses are flat with chamfered corners. I believe these are Wayne 70 or 100. Can anyone confirm? When I place a light behind the glass, the coloring is uneven (see pic). Has anyone tried dusting the back of the glass with white spray paint to even out the coloring, or should I leave it alone?

...I would not advise painting the back of your glass...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I often use this for some "glass size to pump" references. But you need the glass dimension, not the frame. Although these are for repop lenses, I can only assume these are the same sizes as the originals.

I would just leave well enough alone . Gives it a little patina look to it .And yes those dimensions sound like the side add-glass for a Wayne 70 .

White paint tends to be opaque, so you definitely don't want to put paint on the back unless you want to see the speckles. I don't think that will look good at all. What about changing the way you light it?

Thank you for the confirmation on the Wayne 70. And, thank you to all, for your comments on whether or not to paint the glass. I will leave it as is. The discoloration is an uneven browning of the surface and is unaffected by what type of light I have behind it. Doesn't wash off with soap and water and I am afraid to use anything stronger.
