There has been some discussion regarding the model number of the pump pictured on the right below. The identification tag on the pump indicates that it is a model 500. I believe, based on a photo in Jack Sim's first gas pump identification book, that the model 550 had an internal sight glass while the 500 has an external visi gauge. This is the first American 500 I've seen so if anyone else has any additional information please feel free to chime in. Thanks

I would think there must be some differences between a 500 and a 550.
Thanks!

Since the last book I have found a nice piece of American literature on the 500 series pumps. Actually it doesn't mention the 500, just the 510 and the 550. The 510 is a v/r computer, with inside sight glass. The 550 is a clock mech, with a outside sight glass. The other think I see is that the face bezel is more elaborate than your 500.
By the way, can I have your permission to show the 500 in the next book. I still have time to add it.
Thanks,
Jack Sim

Need to add a little more.
Since these are late 1930s pumps, the 550 (clock) was probably made after the 510 and was sold as a non-computer. This was done quite often, probably an easy way to get rid of the left over clock mech. instead of paying v/r a fee to use their computers.

Marshall,
Does your 500 have the same face bezel as shown in junknjohn's picture?

Jack,
I never saw you message. My face plates are the same as Johns. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.
