I picked up this Standard Oil 30 gallon lubester yesterday. I have searched but can't find any info on it. Is there a site that list lubesters? And, for the time being can someone tell me about it? Thanks, J.R.

Early 30 gallon--lid alone is worth $100.

Standard Oil didn't make lubsters, they made oil. The unit was probably made by one of the gas pump companies, look for a tag. I probably have literature on it, but without a company name it would probably take me a few hours looking it up.

Since it has the Standard lid it was most likely provided by the distributor to the station as part of a branding package. Like so many things back then there were variations of what was offered for a price or per an agreement.
Most lubesters have unbranded tops and there are collectors of those branded lids.
True branded lubesters seem to always have the lid and brand advertising stickers or attached signage on the end and at least one long side as yours does.
The generic term lubester covers units that were used for everything from kerosene, various motor oil grades, and even some lighter greases.
Bulk product would have been pumped into them and then dispensed into appropriate bottles or cans.

It also has Standard cast into the pump. Is that unusual?

Jack, I get your point, and I even agree with you. However this is simply semantics at that point. Sunoco didn't make signs either, but is this not a Sunoco sign?? And for what it's worth, I dont think Standard "made" the oil. Just giving you a little DB ribbing there old man!! I totally appreciate and respect your knowledge!!

Are you sure the tag is gone? Looks like the tag is still there, looks to be covered in paint.

There is one for sale in my area now. Depends on condition and type. The one pictured is a very early Standard Oil lubester and has an embossed type lid identifying the company. The lid alone will fetch about $100. A plain lid lubester in decent shape and about the same size, should bring from $30 to $100, depending on how bad you want it!

In the wild of NY an unbranded lubester in this size should be under $60, branded $100 or less.
Most shows you can find this size/condition/generics from $100-200 and branded $200-350. In restored shape generic capped often retail out at shows from $250-600 and branded $350-sky high.
If the lubester has a visible glass on the pump add $$$ depending on which lubester/glass/mfg... you can find book values on these and they can get verrrry pricey.
