Another Monday and really enjoying the winter! I just got back from fishing on Lake Winnipeg with my son. It was a special trip for us, as he turned 50 on Saturday and I was wanting to make it extra memorable for him! We arrived at our hotel, and the next morning was like magic, as the weather improved and things looked great! First day fishing was a little slow, but it steadily improved with each passing day! We made the journey with some friends that also have a sno Bear, kind of for safety sake, more than anything. Lake Winnipeg is a "BIG" lake and breaking down out there can be a problem! Luck was with us though, and we had no problems and great fishing! In fact, we caught 48 nice walleyes on Saturday, with several in the 24 inch range. It was strictly catch and release for us, as we just wanted to enjoy the experience and not gather fish. Heres a picture of my son and I standing in front of a big pressure ridge where the ice was pushed up, and another of my son with a nice 27 inch walleye he caught! Hope the rest of you are enjoying each and every single day! They go by at a high rate of speed! Have a great day on me!!--KEVIN

It's good to get a fishing report from you Kevin. Looks like you had a great one with your son, that's a dandy he's holding. Your Snobear is just an awesome rig for that kind of fishing. I've been to lake Winnipeg and it is a big expanse of water that you wouldn't want to be stranded on, especially this time of year! We fished the river mostly so never ventured out into the big water but the right equipment is a must to do it right. Keep us updated on the fishing in Devils Lake when you go. Spring is just around the corner and we have had such mild weather here this year that it seems winter never really got here. The crappie fishing here is already ramped up as if it were March. Have a good week everyone.....GB

I've been holed up in my studio painting pearls - lots of tiny pearls - so haven't been checking in regular. Thanks Kevin for some great winter shots! We have not even had shoveling snow here in my neck of the woods. Great 50 b-day present!

Kevin that brings up old memories. Back in the day we'd go up each winter to a camp north of Gimli. There was an assigned task to us, often it was cutting a hole in the ice for water. No ice augers, we used axes, 4 feet later we hit water. Never saw any pickerel but as the joke goes we caught lots of ice. Those pressure ridges were as much as 8' high. Imposing evidence of the forces of nature. Glad you had a good time. BTW your accomodations looked far better than ours in the 60s.
