I need help from our Oldgas Community. I resently purchased this Sunoco set. I am seeking the opinion of our members as to how you would value it. I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
Steve

It's hard to put much past "our Old Gas Community", isn't it? John

My question was an innocent question. How in the world am I trying to “put much past” the community. I thought I was part of the community. The original set was indeed purchased on eBay. But since then I was able to buy a matching set of key fobs and hopefully enhance the value. That was my question. I am sorry I posted my question. I did not think I would offend any of my fellow collectors. I am retired and love this hobby but I probably will quit posting if it is going to stir up this kind of misunderstanding.
Sorry I asked a legitimate question,
Steve

Steve,
Sorry to see this misunderstanding. Some members have become cynical about value requests by recent buyers over the years. Perhaps if you had stated your key upgrade question in your original post as you did in your reply, there may have been a different reaction. So many members watch eBay auctions, we have to assume the folks reading here have seen the auction.

I agree that it probably wasn't noticed by any of the "lookers" that the key fobs now, do in fact match....I sure didn't notice the change when I looked at the link to the Ebay auction above vs. your pictures above until it was pointed out.

So back to my question...is there any change in value from the $515 I payed on eBay since I upgraded to matching key fobs? Any help is graciously appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi, Steve. My earlier reference to "our Old Gas Community" simply mirrored your use of those words in your initial post. I sure didn't mean it in terms of "Us" vs."You". What I was getting at is that I'm amazed how much a number of people here on the forum observe about the more unique items bought and sold publically in the hobby. Whether at an auction, on eBay, or a swap meet, not much goes unnoticed it seems! Sorry for any misunderstanding. Regards, John

In Stephen's defense, just because an item was purchased on eBay, that does not necessarily 'set the value'. A member might buy something last-minute on eBay that he really wants for his collection, know little about it (or can't find info online about it) and reach out to the old gas community to see if he got a good deal or got ripped off. The old gas community may in-fact say something like, "Wow those normally go for twice that... Good buy." I don't see a problem with his question, regardless if the keys match or not.

If auctions 'set the value' then I have some pumps I will sell, for half price of the January Barrett Jackson auction (let me know): wink

1. Tokheim 39 tall. $32,200.00
2. Bowser 577. $28,750.00
3. Fry 117. $21,850.00
4. Wayne 70. $17,250.00
5. Tokheim 39. $11,500.00
6. Tokheim 300. $11,500.00

Just my 2 cents,
Steve

Thanks Steve for your 2 cents. I apologize to MarkyMark, Cold Pizza, and Jolly John. As the lady sheriff in the movie Fargo said, “I got a little snippy”. I wish I had a lot of the knowledge and experience many of our veteran members have. But I love the craftsmanship and history of these old signs...to think where they hung and the generations that observed them...even the “crazies” who took aim with their 22s. So we are all square and shall proceed.
Thanks!
Steve
