I was getting ready to take this lubester cart to my paint guy but then started thinking I should leave it the way it is...any input would be greatly appreciated!

Back in the day, I'd say blast and paint it pretty. Today, patina is popular so, leave it.

I would leave that one as is... If you want one to restore, maybe you can trade this one with someone who wants an original state cart for one that needs a restoration. Darin

Problem also is that you painted green and the next buyer wants Red. Hard to know what the next guy will like if restored.

My opinion on the lubester, this a tough one. For me, it's like just rough enough to restore in my opinion. But then again.... If there was/is a way to restore the roughness out of it yet keep it say 85% original, I would vote for that. Randy, I miss my rack!!!!

I think i would restore this one. If the decals were more present, then 100% leave it original. But since they are almost all gone, except for the outline, i personally would restore it.

Problem also is that you painted green and the next buyer wants Red. Hard to know what the next guy will like if restored. IMO- depends if your going too keep it or sell it, can the decals that were originally on there be obtained? .. ...

Thanks for all the replies...I'm still not sure what I'll do...if the decals were in better condition I would definitely leave it alone...I'll let you know what I decide and thanks again for all the suggestions

Whatever feels right and appeals to you....if you don’t plan on reselling it, that is. If you do plan on reselling down the road, think of what the next guy(s) would want done. Personally, cans and ephemera I like perfect as perfect as possible, signs can be a little rough here and there, and pumps/carts/lubesters I like original and unrestored....kinda like repainting a sign or can IMO. Then again, I was never crusing around filling up at stations back in the 30s-60s with nice shiny pumps lining the islands, so that restored look never appealed to me or brought me nostalgia like the look of aged metal does. Can always try aging original decals where the old ones sat.
Looking for Michelin items + NJ oil company related items (Mohawk, Guardian, Whiz, etc) + animal-related petroliana + Gargoyle/Shell/Sinclair items
