Today I picked up a Gilbarco 96 I won in a online auction. It was listed through a new auction house in Lloydminster in a miscellaneous auction with scrap steel and mostly tractor attachments. I won the auction with a all in price of $138 including the auction fees. There was only one other bidder who let it go after i exposed their high bid of $100. If this pump would’ve been at a well known auction house and in a antiques and collectibles auction I am sure it would’ve been a different story. It just goes to show that these pumps are still out there sometimes not where they should be so don’t give up the search! I’m looking forward to getting to work on this one and I’ll post some pictures as I go.

Great score for that price. Is that a 16 1/2" globe body sitting on top? That is the size that Imperial Oil used. Cheers, Don.

I took a measurement straight across (16 1/4"), would anyone have any insight into how to mount a reproduction lens in this style of globe?

Is the globe body welded to the bottom plate or are they stamped? I have never seen this before. A pic of bottom would help.
To hold the lens you will need snap rings that mount in the groove.
Have gas all the time

It has been welded to the cover plate at some point in its life.

From what I can tell from my photo collection of Imperial stations in Alberta the G & B 96 was the last Gilbarco pump that Esso used with a globe. I didn't see any globes on any of the later Gilbarco pumps. I am not familiar with anyone making a repro lens in this larger size though I could be wrong. You may have to use a repro 15" steel body and lens. Snap rings for 16 1/2" bodies should be available from most repro globe sellers or make your own if you have a rolling machine. Cheers, Don.

Thanks for the info and pictures, I'm waiting on a response back from Jims Garage in New Westminster. He had a 15" reproduction Esso Extra globe with the Ethyl logo on it but it was listed as out of stock. I've got my fingers crossed that he can track one down for me. In any of your other photos of Imperial stations are there any that have the Ethyl logo on the door of the pump?

I looked at all the stations and their pumps and there is only one with the Ethyl logo on the door. It is partially covered by the car in front of the pump but you can still make out what it is. You could also try Frank Walther at Gas Pumps + More for reproduction pump parts. He is close to Edmonton in the Ardrossan area. Cheers, Don.
