I own a small commercial building and I found this in the attic today. Any idea what it would have been to?

Hanging ceiling light. Looks to have been in use in the past and was changed out for some reason? Maybe doesn't work, or maybe didn't give off enough light? Hook it up to electricity and check it out,

...I've seen those used in older gymnasiums...the ribbed shade is glass, and will look great cleaned up...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
