What I use:
The "Fikstad Method"
Less than $5 for powdered citric acid and water and usually about 36 hours of soaking...

Does walmart carry powdered citric acid

Walmart does not carry it. I ended getting it at a Bi-Mart in the canning supplies section. I use about 3 tablespoons per 5 gallons of water.
No, I didn't wax or polish but did dip in baking soda water to neutralize the acid, then lightly cleaned them with Dawn dish soap.
