Needing some help verifying the size or sizes of ORIGINAL Phillips 66 ethyl shields. I have learned a lot already about fonts and grommet holes in my research but It seems there have been several sold at “reputable” auctions with varying size listings. Perhaps some folks are not being very precise on there measurements, just adding to the confusion. I have found size discrepancies on other signs in reputable books as well. For example an original sign that actually measures 29.5” being called 30”. Would love to hear some opinions on the measurement dilemma and have some owners of known original ethyl shields chime in with the EXACT measurements of theirs. Thank you in advance! It’s true this hobby is a lifelong learning experience!!

my 30 is 291/2 and my 48 is 47 I know there both real.

Is your 29.5 the Ethyl version ?

the other 2 measure 29 1/2"-
notice the difference in the letters in "Ph" illips
all 3 are different, made in different years, different sign companys?

Probably a combination of year and sign company. My regular shield marked veribrite 1941 has the more “open” P like your motor oils shield (which is also an early version marked veribrite I’m assuming) Does your regular shield have a makers mark?

motor oils shield has veribrite no date - 1st regular shield no markings upper picture,
2nd regular shield pictured below has markings of SRS '54 & measures 29 3/4"
P in 2nd regular shield matches P in motor oils version
notice both my regular versions have 2 holes in the bottom,
don't see any in yours .. ...

Here's our NOS regular, dated '55, guaranteed original 29-3/4" exact.
