Does anyone know anything about this item? Is it rare, value, year? Any knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks

Posting a couple photos in a reply would help to get an opinion.

I thought I replied to this, but maybe not. This meter is rare only because it wasn't a very good meter. There were several problems with it as well as being easily destroyed. You can still find the dome on Ebay. I do have a couple of these and sofar have found no other parts.

Randall is correct, as far as I know.
It's a Duncan-Miller Automaton parking meter from the early to mid 1950s. Production didn't last very long because kids were sticking razor blades in the coin slot. The next person to put a coin in, and push the "button," got their finger sliced up pretty bad.

I'm interested in buying any of these meters. I'm trying to write a service manual on these meters. Please contact me via PM.

Hey Rick,

I'm a new member of the group and was wondering if you ever complete your service manual on this rare Duncan meter? I have one in working condition. There are three parts that appear to go in some order opposite the coin slot. When I took it out of the housing it all fell apart and so I didn't get to see what order they go back in. Got any ideas please let me know. Thanks!

Funny thing - I think I just bought the meter posted above at Carlisle today, it’s labelled #74 and has the same indentation on the top lock. Just googled for some pics and this thread came up.

Interesting. If you came up from "Down Under", for Carlisle, you might hold the distance record today? Paul www.severngaspumps.com
