Use citric acid a few table spoons dissolved in warm water in a pan deep enough to cover & soak for an hour or so check . Rinse off with water then Neutralize with vinegar after the rust is removed then rinse wax . If porcelain won’t hurt it a bit . If painted surface watch how long it soaks and don’t allow it to lift the paint it is careful balance on painted surface have to keep your eye on it closely when used on painted surfaces .key is to keep the water warm .

This is the way to go. Barkeepers friend or Bon Ami (Bon Ami is made for porcelain. It’s about $1.60 a can at Walmart).

Use a sponge (the kind with the scotchbrite side works better), a small amount of water, and some Bon Ami. It’ll make a paste, scrub sign.

That face plate would take less than 2 minutes and the rust stains would be gone.

I’ve done hundreds of porcelain signs with this stuff. Fast and easy.

Use on porcelain signs only*

This one took me all of 2 minutes.....

CLR is a really useful cleaner and I’ve tried it on porcelain signs a number of times but doesn’t seem to work well on that. Number of ways to do this as posted above but typically scrubbing of some kind needed. When I was experimenting, CLR worked the least well, Iron Out, etc was better as a “pre-scrub” cleaning stage.

The anti-rust cleaning chemicals are especially useful when the porcelain surface is damaged or chalky and the rust has seeped in to it.
