May be of interest to truckers-In the early 90's the head honcho over West Coast Shell Distrubition Shops had a better idea,or so he thought. The typical truck /trailer was a 3 axle truck and 2 axle trailer. We could scale 4800 gallons on the trailer and 4000 gallons on the truck. The "concept" was a 2 axle truck and 3 axle trailer,app.6000 gallons on the trailer and 3000 gallons on the truck.Did not exactly pan out that way,not sure if we gained even 100 gallons. The good thing no mountain running in the winter, the bad thing it was kind of like the tail wagging the dog!
I do not think all of the West Coast Plants had them. In the 2000 era Shell got rid of all trucks/drivers and went common carrier. The first 2 picture are of the "concept".The next 2 are typical West Coast truck/trailers.

This was an article about the "concept" truck.Super single tires, lower center of gravity and supposedly 1500 pounds lighter.

Picture was taken at Van Nuys Ca.The truck was built for Martinez Ca. Plant.
