Its been said that the only constant is change. I've found myself becoming less involved in the hobby the past year or so. Not because I don't enjoy the hobby, but because of demands on my time from running my business and following my other interests. Due to lack of time,I resigned as moderator recently. I hadn't planned on saying anything publicly about it.
I had privately told a friend of my decision and he thought I must have been angry about some recent changes here on Shop Talk. That is not the case at all. I've been planning on retiring as moderator for many months. The only reason I've stayed this long is because I think so highly of Jim Potts.
Another friend that I had confided in thought my decision was brought on by having to deal with those that break the rules here on Shop Talk. While I always found that aspect of being a moderator very unpleasant, its not why I'm stepping down. I hold no grudge with anyone I've had issues with as a moderator. I hope they feel the same.
This is Jim's site and he asks very little of us other than we follow a few simple rules. I just tried to enforce the rules as they were explained to me.

The most rewarding part of being a moderator was my involvement in working with the different collectors to bring you our regular showcase features. Dwaine Buck, Larry Ivy, and Ted Roach were instrumental in the early developement of those features and I thank them for their efforts as well as those that have hosted our showcase features since then.
A special thanks goes out to the current group: Doc, Buys Of The Week; Kmann, Company Of The Month;Wes, Found Along The Way;Tom,Map Of The Month; Ryan,Petroleum Collectible Of The Month; Richard,Pump Of The Month;and John, Globe Of The Month. I also want to thank Tom Green, as he is taking over building the globe album. That was one project I never could devote enough time to. For the time being I'm going to continue to host Sign Of The Month. My hope is that a true sign collector steps up to take that job soon.

I hate to dump more work on Hubba and Jim. Hopefully the new "watchdogs" will lighten their workload.
I'm not going anywhere. I'm still going to participate in the discussions here on Shop Talk.
Sincerely,
Bob Drake

I'd like to sincerely thank Bob for all that he has done for Oldgas.com Shop Talk. The growth in many of the great features on Shop Talk is largely because of Bob's ideas, coaching of members and his follow through. He shared much of the moderating load so I could do so many of the other things that had to be done around here. I'll always be grateful for his time, effort and heart that he invested in Shop Talk.

We have added 5 new "watchdog" moderators who will keep an eye out for possible issues and report them to Hubba or me for action. All are experienced Shop Talk members who know the hobby and our activities here. I hope this works like a neighborhood watch program that helps to curb problems promptly.

Bob I want to thank you for all you have given to the hobby, and to the site. It was a pleasure to run into you at some obscure auction, where I thought I would be the only petro collector there.Best of luck in your future projects. Norm Huff.

I also want to thank Bob for the hard work he has put into the Showcase of the months. Unless you host something like globe of the month or sign of the month or any of the others you don't know what it takes time wise plus he had to keep the guys inline with the rules of the site.

I also want to thanks Jim Potts and Hubba while i am on the topic for all the hard work they do for the site!

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

I too want to say thanks for the sometimes "thankless" job you do on here. I know it takes alot of your time to mediate when emotions start to run high, but you did a fine job. I have learned to calm down and follow the rules better because of the moderators. Sometimes, emotions overrun better judgement. Thanks again and see at the shows soon.
