In 1957 I was getting ready to enter the Army, but my sister was a regular at the American Bandstand at the WFIL studios in Philiadelphia. She went to the all girl Kensingstion High School (which was in the northeast section of Philly), and every day her and her girlfriends would run out of school, jump on a trolly car, then on the the El that ran from NE Philly to west Philly where the studio was, down the steps and get in line. They would only allow so many in for the show, and many a day they would cut off the line just in front of her and she would have to head home.
I did had duck tail hair cut, and when that went out of style I started using the Butch wax for my crew cut. I still have picture of me wearing a zuts suit with a Billy Eckstein shirt, I was cool.
How many Great-grandmothers are blushing out there seeing their picture on that site?

I should be mad but I have a smile on my face, just spent 2 hours looking all of the stuff on that website, brought back many memories. My wife and I were trying to name the pictures before the actual names came up.
You old car guys should try the "Autos" page, try and guess the year and make before it comes up.

They left out the Ground Observer Corps.I just started High School in 1952, and the cold war was getting started. If you wanted some excitement, you could join up, and go out to the highest point around and spend hours looking up at the sky searching for enemy airplanes.LOL. About all they could bomb around Clinton, was our neighbors hog lot, but it was the patrotic thing. I am not sure anyone told us what to do if we saw a Russian plane. It must have been important, I never forgot it.Norm.
