I suppose most folks who are addicted bought Jack's pump I.D. book 'cause they like the pictures and like to know a value for what they might buy or sell. Thanks to Jack's book & other sources of info I have FINALLY been able to match almost every model crankback computer to what pump they were introduced in and what year. That gives me a TIMELINE for what model computer was built/introduced by Veeder Root and what year...Untill now I don't know if this info exists ANYWHERE. I know it may be useless for most of you but it has intrigued me over the years. Computers are not dated nor marked w/ a model #, only a serial #. From what I have been able to decipher, Veeder Root introduced it's first CRANKBACK in 1932. a newer variator in 1933 a newer variator in 1934 4 newer models in 1935 using same head guts a newer 12" head in 1936 using same head guts a newer 12" head in 1937 using new head guts a newer 12" head reset in 1939 a newer 12" variator in 1945 a newer head 12" in 1949 After 1937 the small computers were phased out.
There is still that grey area since I have found no solid documentation on this as far as model numbers, but I have matched computers w/ id tag dates, pat records, and pump model dates. There are also upgrades & hybrids & NON-COMPUTERS and 4 wheel units, that raise the count to around 15 different crankback computers.

...does this make you a 'computer geek'?
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
